Senior State Dept. official accused of soliciting sex from minor

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A senior State Department official in charge of counterterrorism programs was arrested after allegedly soliciting sex from a minor.
Daniel A. Rosen, who is the State Department's director of counterterrorism programs and policy, was arrested on a charge of using a communications device to solicit a juvenile, the Fairfax County police said.

Authorities said Rosen, 44, had been communicating online with a female detective from the child exploitation unit posing as a minor. Rosen was arrested at home and taken to a Washington jail.

State Department officials said they were aware of the situation but did not identify the person arrested.

"For issues related to Department personnel and for privacy reasons, we are not able to confirm the identity of the individual or specific charges," spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. "His security clearance will be suspended, and he will be put on administrative leave while this proceeds to its end through any judicial process."

According to Rosen's Linkedin page, he is responsible for all "strategic planning, policy planning, program and budget planning and oversight, and legislative relations and interaction."
