The “short” supplemental Obamacare tax prepare guide is twenty-one pages long and ultimately what that guide is telling many people is that they owe the government money because of Obamacare. At the end of 2014, Obamacare approval had already fallen to a record low of just 37% according to Gallup. Now with the increased tax burden taking effect on individuals, that number is certain to plummet even further on the eve of a Supreme Court ruling that could gut the law all together. Since its passage five years earlier (without a single Republican vote mind you) Obamacare now faces its greatest threat to be terminated and it seems the vast majority of Americans would breathe a collective sigh of relief and declare, “Good riddance.”

(Obamacare appears on the verge of dying.)

The president himself is well aware of how dire the situation is for the law that unofficially bears his name. That would explain his pathetic and preening performance in yet another attempt to convince younger Americans he’s cool, hip, and therefore they need to go out and sign up for Obamacare.

At a time when U.S. soldiers were literally fighting off ISIS attacks in Iraq, Barack Obama had copious amounts of makeup applied to his face and then stood in front of a mirror making faces to himself and reading lines about how people needed to go out and sign up for Obamacare.

This clearly appears to be a law, and a president, on the verge of a self-inflicted collapse.

In the past year millions have lost their previous health insurance and were then forced onto Obamacare plans. The administration has then used these numbers to declare Obamacare a success, declaring “millions more” have joined Obamacare even as Obamacare has actually done very little to insure the uninsured but rather push one group of insured people from one plan to another, though at a much greater cost.

Obamacare offers fewer choices, higher costs, and now as millions of families begin to do their taxes, they are finding shocking penalties associated with the law being leveled against them.

In March the Supreme Court will hear the case of King v. Burwell which outlines a challenge that the federal subsidy program associated with Obamacare is unconstitutional. The Obamacare legislation itself appears to indicate that very thing. If the court’s ruling agrees, two-thirds of all states in America will find themselves in violation of the Constitution by participating in the Obamacare subsidies. Further chaos and yet higher costs will certainly ensue, and at that point an American public already disgusted by a draconian centralized government law might very well reach its breaking point.

It will be a prime opportunity for Republicans to provide a viable, lower cost, greater freedom alternative to Obamacare. State to state insurance policy competition, an enhanced and far better VA program, expansion of Health Savings Accounts, tort reform…the options are certainly there and if would likely find strong approval among voters.

Congress, both Republicans and Democrats alike, need to ignore an irrelevant and self-absorbed president and take to doing the job of governing far more seriously than they have in recent years. That will take actual leadership of course, and I certainly share in many others’ suspicions that Republicans in Congress are as devoid of that quality as their Democrat counterparts.

But perhaps with the embarrassing yoke of the Celebrity President fading fast, the idea of doing the job of actual governing will return?

In the 2014 elections, Republicans generally opposed the system, and prevailed.By 2016 elections, public sentiment may remain against the system in place.

The 2016 democrats, from Potus on down will be forced to support the system, and perhaps again it will doom them.

That is what Jeb Bush and Scott Walker (and others) need to address now.

Hillary may run on fixing the system by taking it even further to the left. Single-payer.

I would hope that any Republican running would be capable of making forceful arguments against that.

But in 2012, Republicans still opposed the system, and lost. Both in the courts and at the ballot box.

In 2012, people were in the position of being warned there was a crocodile in the water. In 2014, it was chewing on their hand.

People in general are remarkably dumb or complacent about risk until it bites them.
