“Girls’ Lives Matter”: Movement To Defend Carjacker Jessica Hernandez Begins

By V. Saxena, January 28, 2015.

Two days ago, Denver police officers shot and killed 16-year-old Jessica Hernandez, “who authorities say struck an officer with a stolen car,” reports CBS News:

Early Monday morning, an officer was called to check on a suspicious vehicle, and a colleague arrived after it was determined the car had been reported stolen, Police Chief Robert White said.

In a statement, police said the two officers then “approached the vehicle on foot when the driver drove the car into one of the officers.”

White said both officers then opened fire. The officer hit by the car was taken to a hospital with a leg injury.

According to the Daily News, the four surviving teens who were also in the vehicle with Jessica Hernandez tell a different story.  One of them alleges that the police “first shot at the car’s window, injuring Hernandez, and forcing her to lose control of the car and strike the officer.” The premise here is that the officers basically chose to violate protocol and shoot at a random vehicle without any provocation whatsoever. Note that this premise sounds awfully similar to the disproved theory that Officer Darren Wilson had executed Mike Brown.

The Grio reveals that the usual batch of rabble rousers have already begun protesting and demanding a special inquiry, all under the banner of “Girls’ Lives Matter“:

“We’re angry about it. It’s another life taken by another cop,” 19-year-old Cynthia Valdez, a close friend and schoolmate of Hernandez’s, said at the vigil. “She was trying to find her talent. She wanted to find out what she wanted to be. … Who knows what she could have been?”

Here’s my Question: While it is an absolute tragedy that a 16-year-old child lost her life, could it be conceivable that her she herself could have prevented her own demise by either not stealing a car OR not trying to run over a Denver police officer?
