FBI: NY Assembly speaker arrested on corruption charges
« on: January 22, 2015, 04:24:59 pm »

Sheldon Silver, who's activities as speaker of the New York State assembly has come into question, turned himself in this morning at the FBI's New York City office.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cuomo's name comes up during the investigation and trial as it relates to the Moreland commission.

Cuomo started the so-called Moreland anti-corruption commission as a campaign promise to look into political corruption in Albany. But in the midst of the investigation Cuomo abruptly shut it down. The move prompted questions into Cuomo's commitment into cleaning up Albany.

Quote
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara took over the files of New York's Moreland anti-corruption commission after Cuomo closed it in April. He said in October that investigations into Albany's pay-to-play politics are continuing.

Keep an eye on Preet Bharara, US attorney for the Southern District of New York. Speculation is Bharara wants to be mayor of New York City or maybe governor. With this arrest of Sheldon Silver, and with di Blasio's sagging one-term caliber performance as mayor, and with a potential legal cloud continuing to swirl around Gov. Cuomo, it looks like Bharara may be well on his way to making a name for himself. Just as another US attorney for the Southern District of New York had done, Rudolph Giuliani.

Bharara has scheduled a news conference for this afternoon.
