Several senators and governors eyeing a 2016 presidential bid already have visited with the Heritage Foundation, President Jim DeMint says, and he is convinced conservative candidates will be on the GOP ballot.
DeMint declined to say which senators and governors he has spoken with during an appearance Thursday on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto."
But he said many of them will be coming back for follow-up visits.
A former Republican senator from South Carolina, DeMint said he left his old job precisely because he was tired of seeing GOP candidates run as conservatives, then turning mushy once they'd taken their oath of office.
He is now heading the conservative organization with hopes of electing more conservative candidates.
"I believe we can win the debate, but it's not going to be with mushy, middle candidates, he said. "It's going to be an inspiring, bold candidate."
