The police officer who was seen in video taking down Staten Island, N.Y., dad Eric Garner in what appeared to be a choke hold has told internal-affairs investigators that he never used the prohibited move, his lawyer told CNN.
“He indicated he never used a choke hold,” attorney Stuart London said. “He used a takedown technique he was taught in the academy. He said he never exerted any pressure on the windpipe and never intended to injure Mr. Garner.”
