Sharpton Explains Tax Cheat Allegations: ‘People Don’t Like… That Obama’s The President’

African-American activist and MSNBC host Al Sharpton shot back at allegations that he and his nonprofit organization owe an estimated $4.5 million in taxes to the federal government, saying the charges were politically-motivated. “A lot of people don’t like the fact that President Obama’s the president,” he told reporters in a Harlem press conference. “A lot of people do not like the fact that Bill de Blasio won for mayor. And they certainly don’t like that I’m still here, and I ain’t going nowhere.”

“I think it’s political,” he replied shortly at another point.

Local paper Capitol New York also reported that the press conference ended with Sharpton “abruptly walking out on a roomful of reporters.”
