New 'Border Sabotage' Lets In Thousands of Central American Kids

The Obama administration has created a new policy that would allow thousands of Central American children to enter the United States legally, a move described by Republicans as "border sabotage."

According to The Washington Times, the policy could set the stage for immigrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, who entered the country illegally, to petition to have their children still residing in their home countries come to America as refugees.

"The president cannot continue to claim he cares about border security when he only has an appetite for border sabotage," said Texas GOP Rep. Lamar Smith, according to the Times.

An estimated 60,000 child migrants crossed the U.S. border in a surge starting last year, some of whom were looking to reunite with parents or siblings already in the U.S. illegally.

The Homeland Security Department insisted that the program "will not be a pathway for undocumented parents to bring their children to the United States."

"This program will allow certain parents who are lawfully present in the United States to request access to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for their children still in one of these three countries," the State Department said, according to the Times.

"Children who are found ineligible for refugee admission but still at risk of harm may be considered for parole on a case-by-case basis."

But Republicans said they expect that the policy will result in a fresh wave of children attempting to enter the country.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, a Virginia Republican, described the program as "simply a government-sanctioned border surge."

"Under this abusive new policy, unlawful immigrants in the United States, once they are granted executive amnesty by the president, can now rely on the Obama administration to bring their child, and possibly their spouse, who are in Central America, to our country," he said, according to the Times.

The announcement comes in advance of the expected executive action by the president on immigration that could grant amnesty to as many as 7 million illegal immigrants.
