CALCUTTA, India, Nov. 5 (UPI) --CALCUTTA, India, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- India's port city of Calcutta, also known as Kolkata, is on high alert in response to a terror threat, officials said Tuesday.
"We have received inputs from central intelligence agencies that there might be a terror attack in Kolkata, especially in port area. We have increased security in the port area and have put the entire city under security blanket," an unnamed senior police officer said.

India's Navy recalled two warships, the INS Khukri and INS Sumitra, from Calcutta on Tuesday. The warships had entered the port late Monday and were recalled days ahead of their scheduled Nov. 7 departure. The Defense ministry, however, said the recall was unrelated to the terror threat and was instead prompted by "undisclosed 'operation reasons' on orders by Eastern Naval Command HQ."

K.S. Dhatwaila, a spokesman for India's Home Ministry, confirmed Wednesday that Calcutta remains on high alert.

No further information regarding the nature of the terror threat was revealed.
