After a night of historic wins by the GOP, there are still a handful of key races around the country — mostly in California and Arizona — that the Associated Press had not yet called Wednesday morning.

In California, votes were still being counted in nine races, eight involving incumbent Democrats: John Garamendi, Ami Bera Jerry McNerney, Jim Costa, Michael M. Honda, Julia Brownley, Raul Ruiz and Scott Peters; and one, California 31, involving an open seat.

Two more Democrats out west, Arizona’s Ann Kirkpatrick (who’s leading) and Ron Barber (deadlocked in a very tight race), are still waiting.

Democratic Sen. Mark Warner declared victory in his re-election bid in Virginia, but GOP challenger Ed Gillespie is within the 1 percent recount margin, and has not conceded.

The Senate race in Alaska between Democratic Sen. Mark Begich and GOP challenger Dan Sullivan was also still undecided early Wednesday, though Sullivan was up by almost 5 percent with about 97 percent of the votes counted.

Six gubernatorial races have not been called by the AP.
