Although President Obama says that radical Islam does not represent the word of the Koran, several stories strongly refute this claim. Most recently, a Georgia Muslim has been arrested after stabbing his sister several times for simply not wearing her hijab.

The 35-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder after inflicting 7 stab wounds on his 33-year-old sister for the religious crime. The woman, also a former police officer, was taken to an area hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

According to the Democracy & Freedom Watch:

The stabbed woman worked for several years as a police officer at Duisi police station, but left in February to start working at the local school administration. According to some locals, the woman left the police under pressure from her brother.

Neither family members nor relatives are eager to comment on the issue openly in this small but extremely closed community. According to some account[s,] the perpetrator has mental problems.

As activists continue to insist that Muslim extremists don’t abide by the true teachings of Islam, stories such as this one seem to indicate otherwise. What do you think – is it unfair to link stories such as this to what Obama refers to as “moderate” Muslims or are these instances truly indicative of the religion?

“Moreover, freedom in America is indivisible from the freedom to practice one’s religion. That is why there is a mosque in every state in our union, and over 1,200 mosques within our borders. That’s why the United States government has gone to court to protect the right of women and girls to wear the hijab and to punish those who would deny it.” — Barack Obama, Cairo, June 4, 2009

Is anyone protecting the right of women and girls not to wear the hijab? Who will stand for them?
