Brace yourselves. It looks as though it's going to be 2008 and 2012 all over again -- where a 50 year-old GOP haircut and a 35-year-old GOP rock are big news, but Hillary will get a sweet mainstream media pass when it comes to vetting her past and formative years. Worse, any attempt by New Media to do the vetting the MSM won't will be met with equal parts wrist-flicking and mockery.
Oh, and once again, Politico will lead the Democratic defense.
The tweets below are written by high-level Politico staffers. Politico presents itself as an objective news outlet, and these three staffers present themselves as objective journalists. Blake Hounshell is a Politico editor. Glenn Thrush and Ben White are reporters.
What they're responding to is the news, first reported by the Washington Free Beacon, that as a college student Hillary Clinton corresponded with Saul Alinsky, the godfather of community organizing, whose primary breakthrough was teaching young democratic socialists how to succeed in upending the American economic system through lying, deceit, and the democratic process. Alinsky was a Marxist who also influenced a young Barack Obama.
If you want to argue that what a 21-year-old Hillary Rodham believed matters little some 45 years later, fine. But these top Politico staffers aren't arguing that. They are using the political tactic of mockery to downplay, dismiss, and discourage others from vetting yet another Democrat presidential contender.
Basically, what you’re seeing below is a partisan tactic designed to protect Hillary:

Politico is yet another nest of elitist snobbery and liberal presumptuousness, filled with cacophonous crows all caw-cawing the same song.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

"Conservatism" ought to spend a lot of energy, resources, money on reselling conservatism, itself.

Just mocking the democrats' candidates gains little, and the resouces spent doing so, could better be deployed.

However "conservatism" has been in the doldrums for so long, few seem able to resell it to voters.

In effect people are asked to listen to "democrats are so bad, and we are not them" and base their choice on that alone.

All over the modern developed world, there are left, center, and right parties. Australia, Canada, Sweden, etc. There have been for over 100 years.

I think Reagan, Friedman, Laffer, Jack Kemp talked more convincingly than people today.

It is a collective criticism.

I find it very interesting and quite ironic that someone who lives in a state that has elected  Jerry moonbeam Brown as its's governor TWICE and that is completely overrun with elected democrats at every level has the audacity to come here and tell the world what Conservatives ought to be doing.

Perhaps you would be well served by putting all that wisdom you think you posses to work at home, and thus showing the world how well it works, before you come here and spout off any further.

Just one man's opinion.

My district has one of the most conservative members of the House.  Would you prefer this site's owners restrict participation by state?

I think it's pretty shallow to blame truth_seeker for all the ills of California.  And "shallow" is used a synonym for sh*tty here.

My goodness.  I live in the one-party State of Maryland, where Republicans are on the endangered species list.  As well as the Dems' "most wanted" for high 'crimes'.  To blame somebody for being a resident of a State run and controlled by the opposition is bush league.

You are entitled to your opinions but know that I don't believe I was blaming anyone for anything! What I was suggesting is that a conservative living in the state of California today might do well to spend more time on getting his own house in order and less on telling other conservatives what they need to be doing.

Dude, I'm just one private citizen with an elected representative more conservative than most on this board. In a county that votes Republican all the time. From a region which includes six SoCal coastal counties, four of which have historically voted Republican until Obama. San Diego, Orange, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties, that is.

I can't help the changing statewide demographics.

Good discussions naturally evolve beyond the context of the original post. It bothers me when people insist that a thread not expand beyond one topic.

It's not so much that—thread derailments happen, and I've done it more than a few times—but it seems to be a persistent pattern with certain posters that have their own talking points (many of which eerily parallel those of the Democratic Party, nonetheless) and inject them into any thread, regardless of relevance, thus provoking an argument that not just digresses from, but totally derails the topic at hand. That's what annoys me.
