At least three people were killed and two others hurt in a shooting in Pasadena, police said.

The shooting was reported in the 1700 block of Summit Avenue about 4:20 p.m., Pasadena Police Lt. Calatayud said. Residents were told to shelter in place.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old John Izeal Smith, of Pasadena, allegedly shot his victims with a semi-automatic rifle before barricading himself inside a home, police said.
Police said he fired at patrol cars, but no officers were hurt.
Smith surrendered to police outside the home just before 6 p.m., police said.
