Dunford: U.S. State Department Leading the Effort to Install ‘Local Governance’ in Raqqah

(CNSNews.com) – Who's going to control the Syrian city of Raqqah when U.S.-backed forces finally expel ISIS?

Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the U.S. State Department is working on it:

First of all, we're -- we're supporting the Syrian Democratic Forces in seizing Raqqah. That's a force of about 50,000, of which about 20,000 to 25,000 are Arab, and the balance are Kurdish.

Just off the top of my head, I think at the end of WWII the US military led our occupation efforts. Not some far away ivory tower led pencil neck geeks in the "State Department."

That is why we usually fail now with occupation, pacification, etc. We turn it over to those who insist on winning "hearts and minds," instead of placing military control above all else.

We bug out too soon, trusting untrustworthy local military forces. And the results we got over and over, in Afghanistan and Iraq, thanks to GW Bush and BH Obama, was lost territory and the necessity of "surges" to take back territory for a second time.

After 8 years under John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, the State Dept. must be chocked full of brilliant minds, but no track record of success.

Sec. Tillerson, please be very careful. Be very skeptical of advice from experts. Double check with military too.
