Learned that one of Stevie Wonder's earliest songwriting collaborators passed on 15 April: Sylvia Moy.
She was the woman who helped save Wonder's career at Motown, after "Little Stevie Wonder's" voice
began to change and the company was uncertain what to do with him, even considering dropping him
at one point. Moy audaciously asked Mickey Stevenson, Wonder's producer at the time, to let her
work with the kid. Stevenson gave in. And when Moy went to see Wonder and he played her a piece
of a new song he'd been tinkering with---based on the driving beat of the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't
Get No) Satisfaction," which impressed him greatly when he opened a few dates on their 1965 tour
---she took it home and finished the bulk of it, with Motown staffer Henry Cosby putting a finishing
touch on.
