5 minutes of listening to John Prine and Emmylou Harris is worth a hour of listening to anyone else.

There's a lot of songs that fit this genre; I'll keep a few for future reference.... a lot of monster songs, I have not listened to in depth. Those UFO songs and other really reflect what was going on in America at the time.

Quote
The premise of the song came from a joke told by the child of a friend of Wooley's; Wooley finished composing it within an hour.[1]

The creature is not necessarily purple, but rather it eats purple people:

I said Mr Purple People Eater, what's your line?
He said eating purple people, and it sure is fine
But that's not the reason that I came to land
    I wanna get a job in a rock 'n roll band[2][3][4]

The creature also gives an additional reason for choosing not to eat the narrator, because the narrator is "so tough".

Yet some people like others that are "so tough"...

There is also the "Sock Hop" thread, post where one wants but I know some like the music that SneakyPete and EasyAce post. Sock Hop is already for oldies types music. That is what I post and I guess a lot of these songs are "oldies" in that sense. Just saying.

@pookie18 : It is here, link below, but I post mainly oldies too.... so, it doesn't really matter. Today and the times this happens are probably pretty uncommon.

There are no rules, post what one wants. Next time, though, perhaps I'll revive that other thread more.
