I can’t even blame it all on her staff; she should have known better. Though I won’t dismiss the possibility that someone might have deliberately encouraged it.

Exactly right. Melania's visit was changing the narrative from children in cages to seeing children in classrooms and her offering to help. The dialogue is now about the message being sent with the jacket. I would conclude it's yet another self-inflicted wound, but I just can't accept that this was anything other than intentional on Melania's part. I just can't figure out the rationale behind the jacket since she so obviously stepped on the message of her own very positive visit. Odd indeed.

I find Melania's jacket thing indefensible. I really don't care what the back story is. She's the First Lady and when she travels on official business (at taxpayer expense) she is representing the American people, whether she likes it or not. She no longer has the freedom to play by her own rules. That jacket is juvenile. Provocative. And given the context of the border--WHERE SHE WAS HEADED-it made her, and Americans, look callous. I know it's been a hell of a week for President Trump, the typical 1 step forward, 2 steps back shit all but his most ardent supporters are use two but I am convinced now of the severity of this meltdown.
Admit it, this immigration thing, his main 'campaign issue' is a total CF, what isn't tied up in the courts is tied up in congress. The dems want more voters and the reps want more cheap labor. 18 months into this Administration and nothings changed except the direction of the finger pointing.
