Sen. Ted Cruz said the growing national debt is set to broadly re-emerge as an area of concern of Republicans down the road.

During an interview on "Axios on HBO" with political reporter Jonathan Swan, the Texas Republican discussed the budget deficit and the federal debt. The pair had an energetic back-and-forth on the matter, with Swan saying Republicans had approved spending policies that grew the deficit, like the 2017 tax cuts.

Cruz also claimed Trump never ran on cutting the debt, but the president campaigned in 2016 to eliminate it within eight years.....

Asked if the swelling debt and deficit will become an area of concern for the GOP, Cruz responded: "Sure."

"Isn't that the most cynical, phony thing?" Swan asked.

"You're touching into something that as you know I've raged against," Cruz replied. "I've raged against my own party not genuinely fighting to rein in spending and deficits and debt."............

You have not been paying any attention have you?  And media certainly won't tell you.  Yes POTUS TRUMP has talked about  what money, is coming into our treasury.  Very short sighted of you.  We, now have a built up military, by TRUMP,  that BHO...decimated to 1915 standards and STILL ran up the deficit. We are receiving delinquent money from NATO.  We are receiving billions in tariffs from CHINA. We have new trade deals.  I can't spoon it all, to you.

What theory?  I backed up your post.  lol.   My theory is, as an attorney, he needs to prosecute people.  We can't. ONLY ATTORNEYS CAN DO THAT.  HE NEEDS TO PROSECUTE.   PROFESSIONAL POLITICIAN.  Most are.

Define what “it will be under control” means without real spending cuts? Neither Trump or Biden are proposing any spending cuts and in fact both are promising to spend even more

Watch these things pretty darned closely.  Never have been a gold bug, but with the deficit this side of $30T?  Continued mismanagment of our economy will have one of two consequences.  Wiemar type hyperinflation, or total unraveling of equities, bonds, real estate, ....  everything in a manner that will make 1929-1939 look like a cake walk.  The next 5 years will be critical on which way this thing goes.

In all the political goobly goop, what is actually real and important gets lost in the static.

Right. But it ain't getting any better. Drastic, draconian cuts in spending while paying the debt down (means relatively no cut in taxes) is what is needed. And it is needed right now. It was needed 20 years ago.

I dunno whether we are past the tipping point - That's a pretty dynamic subject. But we are dang close, and there is only two ways to find out... One of those is to keep spending till it tips over some time in the next half-decade or two, or to start being responsible and start paying it down. Guess which one I prefer.

There are a few of us on here, who probably have a little better understanding of the intracacies of economics as it relates to government accumulated debt.  Your dead horse's resolution may come back in the form of hyper inflation, where your $100 bill might buy a loaf of bread.  Or in a manner where nothing outside of precious metals, land, and fungible items and services have any value what so ever.  If you think there is no tipping point, then you need to get off your skittle powered unicorn, and learn a little.
