That is from the HBO series, The Newsroom.  My niece sent me that link.

Excellent Rant by Jeff Daniels! it is a shame he isn't one of us

Quote
As a Michigan native and spokesman for Michigan appointed by Granholm during her time as governor, Daniels also is expected to speak to some of the issues affecting the state today.
Daniels grabbed headlines last year when he decried Republican Gov. Rick Snyder's cuts to Michigan's film industry tax incentive program.

OK..I have a chance to mull on this.
I knew something was wrong with this rant but I couldn't put my finger on it. Before I post "my answer", I'll see if anyone else has a thought.

I dunno... The part of "moral reasons" and "we waged war on poverty not poor people" made me go hmmmm.

True.
Actually, there are multiple flaws with this clown but the most glaring one is his babble about freedom.
Sure, there are many other countries that have freedom, if you mean there is no fear of being marched off to the concentration camps by the brown shirts. But that's irrelevant because what has made this the greatest country in the world is economic freedom, freedom from government domination in the private sector. Economic freedom has given us the greatest economy in the world and with that has come the ability to make the greatest accomplishments in the world.
I'm not sure what stage of economic freedom we're in right now. Certainly, The Regime has taken us in the opposite direction of economic freedom for the past 3 1/2 years.

Much of what he said was easily refutable or, at least, could be answered with, "Thanks to Democrat policies."
Why are we doing so poorly in educational achievement? Duh.

If America isnt the greatest country in the world, why are so many damned people trying to sneak in?

This IS the greatest country in the world (well..so we slid a little, the past 4 years)..but, I think, after November, we will be on our way back!!  :patriot:

Remember that HBO series is an Aaron Sorkin production.....  which is why I never tuned in.

I don't know Sorkin from Dorkin but I do know HBO.
It's a deal breaker...won't watch it.

Remember the series West Wing on NBC with Martin Sheen?  That was a Sorkin production... until Sorkin went off the rails with Cocaine use......... and one of his buddies and main writers for the show was Lawrence O'Donnell (MSNBC)

What bothers me is that when I watched it the first time I was liking the message.

What bothers me is that when I watched it the first time I was liking the message.

I think a big part of it is a GOOD message and the anguish that we "used to be the best" appeals to us all.  We see it, we sense it, we feel it.  Like most of these shows, however, we need to wait for the full agenda to emerge.  And, there is always an agenda.  Once it does, something like this scene can be seen in a different light.
