Byron Donalds - Running for Florida Governor
« on: Today at 10:48 am »
...and the smear campaigns against him have started.

Byron Donalds has served as the U.S. Representative for the 19th District in the state of Florida since 2021.

Attack ads against him are surfacing that he is a convicted felon for finance fraud.

Here is his true record:

Youthful Arrests and Court Cases:

Drug Arrest: 1997 Arrested at age 18 for marijuana possession. He completed a pre-trial diversion program, paid a small fine, and the charges were dropped without a conviction.

2000 Larceny/Bribery Charge: Arrested at age 21 on felony charges related to a financial/bank scheme, to which he pleaded no contest and served probation.

Expungement StatusRecord Cleared: The court later sealed and fully expunged his criminal record.Legal Standing: Under Florida law, individuals are not eligible to have a record expunged if they carry an active, final felony conviction, meaning he is legally not a convicted felon.

I don't particularly care for this guy, and don't consider his chances at winning to be a foregone conclusion...

I have a friend from Tampa on X who hates him.  Doesn't like Fishbeck either....

I'm undecided on him.  But the Dem candidates for Gov is a collection of mugs, pugs, thugs and bleep and methodists.

He has Trump's endorsement and leads by quite a bit.

Maybe Jay Collins.  But he is way back but ahead of Fishface.

On the Dim side David Jolly is in the lead.

Collins the Lt. Governor -- is hoping to make a surprise upset against Donalds, but the stats just aren't in his favor.

At one point in time DeSantis' wife Casey was going to run, but obviously looks like she decided not to.

In reading some on line comments about Donalds ... one buffoon is saying that Donalds is a drug dealer.  Good grief .... 18 years old and got caught with some pot on him .... 29 years ago.  Really????

It is sad that people rely on campaign ads rather than doing a little research and looking up information on a candidate.  Donalds is a little lax when it comes to voting; he missed a tad more than the norm, but I still think he's the best one running for governor.

In a hypothetical 2026 Florida gubernatorial general election matchup, Republican Byron Donalds holds an advantage over Democrat David Jolly, with statistical models and polling averages giving Donalds roughly a 75% chance of winning and Jolly around a 25% chance.

Byron Donalds is smart. He is talented. He knows how to command a room, handle a camera, and deliver a conservative message with confidence.

That matters.

But politics is not cable television. Congress is not a debate stage. Governing is not measured by applause lines.

It is measured by what you build, what you negotiate, what you get across the finish line when the cameras are gone.

Donalds’ rise has been impressive. Maybe too impressive. His national reputation has sprinted ahead of his legislative résumé.

That does not make him incompetent. It makes him unproven at the level some people now want to place him.

And that is where I part company.

If the choice is between a rising star and someone with a deeper record of doing the hard, boring work of government, I lean toward the person who has already shown they can move the machinery.

That is why I would look at Collins or Fishback first.

Not because Donalds is the villain. He is not.

Not because he lacks ability. He does not.

But because leadership is not just about being the person everyone notices. It is about being the person who can deliver when the spotlight moves on.

Washington has enough performers.

What it needs are builders.

Donalds has been the Rep for the 19th district of FL since 2021  -- he's done well.  He has a conservative voting record and he has a decent ongoing ground game.
