@roamer_1 I am the exact opposite of kidding, i am 100% serious. 2 points right off the bat. i was neither belligerent or a screed. it was a carefully measured response based on 30 years of direct experience in a classroom and 2 masters degrees and the equivalent of two more, and this response will be the exact same.
@verga First of all: Respect. Never think my replies are ever pointed at !YOU!. You and I have been going 'round for years and years. We have always been able to talk, if not agree, ever since the cat. v. prot. debates on FR.
I offer you every respect, and have always appreciated your opinion, especially as a Conservative (that capital 'C' was on purpose) embedded behind enemy lines in the northeast, and in the school system. That is no easy path, to be sure.
I have a tendency to speak very plainly with my friends, figuring enough time has gone by between us that offense would be impossible. If that is not the case, then I apologize.
Do I believe that there are problems in the educational system? Absolutely it it can be traced directly back to a singular root cause. Adults have abdicated their responsibilities to the youth of this country. Following WWII the number of women in the workforce rose exponentially. In the pursuit of wiz bang cool conveniences second incomes were required to support this new lifestyle. We switched from an agrarian economy to an industrial one. It became "easier" for parents to listen to the experts on child care instead of using the common sense methods that had worked for thousands of years. Latch key kids became the norm. Kids were in daycare, then preschool beginning when they were in diapers. Parents had little to no interaction with their children and this is the result. Like I said: Decisions are made by those that show up. If people really want change then they will make them. If you believe that I am wrong, show me legitimate historical evidence tot he contrary.
Oh, but I agree with the sentiment... But take umbrage with the perspective.
Society sold women down the river, to include the extremely liberal school and collegiate systems, where the indoctrination began, and where it still takes place to this very day.
Feminism and no-fault divorce, the hallmarks of the liberal assault on the family, have left families tattered and torn, and Education has lead the way, just as it is now with the utterly ridiculous notion that men can be women and women can be men... or unicorns... or doorknobs... Feminism is no less of an absurdity, and teaching our children these delusions are nothing other than a direct assault on the Christian household, and an affront to God himself. THAT's what I see from a school system that sports a 47% national literacy rate, but can take the time to teach a child how to put a rubber on a cucumber.
And I think you have to know that.
I have thirty years too - Thirty years of bucking that system and the liberal Karens that run the thing. Thirty years in which I literally broke my back trying to take the weight - working nearly around the clock 7 days a week to try to keep my wife at home and my kids raised right... A feat that is near to impossible in today's world. And that is almost exclusively laid at the feet of the Government sponsored and directed Education system.
And the fix is precisely the one you denigrated: Home school. Most home schooled kids practice school for 2 to 3 hours a day and pull high As and Bs. I know at least 20 home schooled hillbilly families (service tech for all their pooters), and that's the norm. Those kids get an excellent education without the socialist claptrap. And without government intervention and teacher's unions, and all the rest of the bullshit that has been wrecking our kids for decades.
