Retaliation being considered if no deal reached by Trump's tariff deadline, Carney says

Prime Minister Mark Carney says retaliatory measures are being considered if his government can't reach a deal with U.S. President Donald Trump before his new tariffs take effect.

"Everything is on the table depending on the outcome of the negotiations," Carney told reporters following a meeting with the 13 premiers in Charlottetown on Thursday.

Their face-to-face follows a threat from the White House to slap 50 per cent tariffs on billions of dollars' worth of Canadian imports come Aug. 19.

"If these tariffs or other measures come into force there's a full range of things that we can do," said Carney.

The prime minister wouldn't say what reprisals are in his back pocket, calling it "counterproductive" to talk retaliation with negotiations underway.

"But it's important to know what your options are," he said

I don't know why Carney thinks he can go tit for tat with Trump on this?  The brother of that crack smoking mayor...Ford is even worse.

CBC invited a Canadian winery owner on to trash Trump and he comes back with "Trump's 50% tariffs are still less than EVERY OTHER province in CANADA puts on us."
