WNBA player Sophie Cunningham, a guard for the Indiana Fever, believes men should not play in women's sports and she's not afraid to say it. This is what we need more of: prominent women athletes standing up for women and girl competitors.
US women's soccer star Megan Rapinoe won't do it and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles won't do it, which makes Cunningham's comments in favor of truth and reality really stand out. Cunningham doesn't have to take issue with trans people to be able to stand up for women's rights.
In an interview with ESPN, Cunningham said she will speak out to "protect women's sports." She's in a unique position to know what that means as a woman playing in a women's basketball league. "I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans," she said.
"And I'm like 'I never once said that.' I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men," she said.
