War Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared before the Senate Appropriations Committee alongside Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to support the Trump administration’s $87.6 billion emergency supplemental funding request.
The hearing brought political friction and vocal anti-war protests as lawmakers aggressively questioned cabinet officials over the military’s expanding campaign against Iran, long-term national security priorities and the growing financial burden of the conflict.
Of the requested $87.6 billion package, approximately $67.1 billion is earmarked directly for defense imperatives, including $21 billion to restore military readiness, replenish depleted stockpiles of precision-guided munitions and stabilize fuel shortfalls.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Gen. Caine opened his testimony by honoring the three U.S. service members killed over the weekend in the Middle East before delivering a direct pitch for the Pentagon’s defense funding request.
