Granted this is a BBC news story ....

JD Vance accuses Israel of 'manipulating' US public opinion to prolong Iran war

US Vice-President JD Vance has accused some members of the Israeli government of trying to influence Americans' opinions to prolong the Iran war.

In an interview published on Wednesday, Vance told conservative podcaster Joe Rogan that while he trusts some people within the Israeli government, there are others "who are manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely".

The Israeli government did not immediately respond to Vance's comments.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday said: "I think the president would certainly agree that, yes, foreign countries certainly do try to persuade American public opinion."

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, Vance said that people within the Israeli government have been trying to shift the US away from its efforts to negotiate with Iran.

"I definitely think you have seen this very discreet, extremely well-funded campaign to try to derail the negotiation and try to derail the deal," he said, adding there is "exact evidence" that some Israeli leaders "hate the deal".

The US reached an agreement with Iran last month, known as the memorandum of understanding (MOU). It allowed for the continuation of formal negotiations, included a now-abandoned 60-day ceasefire and a condition to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

However, tensions over the Strait have resumed recently and the US has intensified its strikes on Iran while Tehran targeted US allies in the region.

Vance has been heavily involved in negotiations with Iran - attending negotiations in Pakistan in April and travelling to Switzerland in June for the signing of the MOU.

He told Joe Rogan that he "doesn't mind" what he described as "certain elements of the Israeli government" criticising the US position, adding that "foreign governments trying and influence the government all the time".

"What bothers me is actually when Americans allow, meaning American leadership allows, that influence to affect their judgement and to affect what they are advocating for," he said. .....

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
That's taking the 'good cop/bad cop' routine out on a limb, IMHO.

No matter what sort of deal is negotiated, Iran as presently run will not honor it.

If the world cannot see that Iran is an enemy to us all in their present iteration, then they do not want to see, are in cahoots with the mullahs, or believe they have something to gain from what is going on.

Inside Israel’s costly US influence operation: big budgets, growing backlash
Ynet Global, Jul 17, 3026

Israel spent hundreds of millions of shekels on influence campaigns, including a $1.5 million-a-month contract with former Trump adviser Brad Parscale, but the efforts failed to improve Israel’s image and may have deepened tensions in Washington

A report published this week by the American magazine Time revealed that the State of Israel paid Brad Parscale, who managed Donald Trump’s 2016 digital campaign, about $1.5 million a month as part of an effort to influence American public opinion, particularly among young conservatives and MAGA supporters.

According to the investigation, the campaign included recruiting influencers, producing large volumes of content and even attempts to influence how artificial intelligence systems present information about Israel.

But instead of strengthening Israel’s standing in the United States, the effort produced the opposite result. Within the Trump administration, suspicions grew that some of the activity was intended to influence the debate over the president’s policy toward Iran. In Israel, a senior official was quoted as saying: “We paid a lot of money, but the situation only kept getting worse.”

The controversy intensified after U.S. Vice President JD Vance addressed the investigation in an interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Vance accused Israeli-linked figures of running a “very discreet, extremely well-funded campaign” that he said was intended to undermine the administration’s efforts to reach agreements with Iran and prolong the conflict.

The fact that a sitting American vice president publicly accused Israeli figures of attempting to influence U.S. foreign policy is an unusual and serious event, reflecting the depth of the crisis surrounding Israel’s influence operations.

However, the Parscale affair is only the tip of the iceberg. Behind the exposed campaign stands a much broader public diplomacy and influence apparatus that has received unprecedented budgets over the past year and a half.

When Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar entered the ministry, about 545 million shekels were allocated for Israel’s international public diplomacy efforts — a sum intended to address the severe image crisis created following the war.

In 2026-2027, Sa’ar secured an additional 2 billion shekels — an unprecedented amount for Israeli public diplomacy.

Three main channels absorbed most of the budget: digital campaigns, delegations and hiring public relations firms abroad.

Even in the area of delegations, Foreign Ministry officials said the results were modest at best and poor at worst. Hundreds of guests were brought to Israel, but some had limited public influence to begin with or already held clearly pro-Israel positions before the visit.

“They convinced the convinced,” one official described it.

FNC’s Kilmeade: Vance’s Israel Comments Sound Like the Squad

On Friday’s broadcast of Fox News Radio’s “Brian Kilmeade Show,” host Brian Kilmeade criticized Vice President JD Vance’s comments on Israel by saying, “That’s stuff that you would expect extremists, extreme Squad members to say” and maybe “he wants to kiss up to the podcast class, who seemingly jumped off support for Israel.”

Kilmeade played a clip of Vance saying, “[I know,] beyond a shadow of a doubt, that there have been people within the Israeli government who are trying to, like, actually, shift us away from that policy, because they want to continue the military campaign. … [T]here are some people within their system we know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, who are manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely. Again, not towards any objective. But just indefinitely.”

Kilmeade responded, “That is not true. Now, are there people within the Knesset that are AOC or Squad-like characters on the fringe? Sure, I guess, I don’t know.
But what JD Vance and every Democrat — the 103 Democrats that voted not to fund — give funds to Israel should understand is, if their enemies were not rocketing them, making Israel an enemy…Israel would not be looking to stay on the war footing. Nobody wants war in Israel, nobody. They’re looking to survive, and they’re not going to be victims. If you’re going to send rockets into the northern part of their country, like Hezbollah, and Hamas into the southern part of their country, from Gaza, and if you’re going to do long-range missiles from — and other things in drones from Iran, you’re going to get attacked back, you’re going to get preemptive strikes. They’re not interested in fighting. Why would he, as Vice President of the United States, say there are people who just want perpetual war? Who? Who are these people? Are you saying the prime minister wants perpetual war? That’s stuff that you would expect extremists, extreme Squad members to say. And I wonder if he even pre-thinks his stuff. I think it’s really detrimental for the Vice President to be saying stuff that’s so erroneous, maybe because he wants to kiss up to the podcast class, who seemingly jumped off support for Israel.”

Kudlow: Vance Needs ‘Reset’ of His Statements

On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow,” host Larry Kudlow said Vice President JD Vance “needs to step back for a moment” and have “a great reset of his policy priorities, his statements, and his own actions.”

After reading from some pieces that were critical of Vance, Kudlow said, “Just as baffling was Mr. Vance’s podcast with the Daily Wire, where he attacked free market, free enterprise, school choice icon Milton Friedman. And then, in the same interview, attacked the equally capitalist, free enterprise, iconic British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and then later in that interview, he attacked the concept of meritocracy. Huh? President Trump has done all he can to get rid of woke DEI, affirmative action on steroids that was produced by Obama and then Biden, in order to restore the great American principle of merit-based achievement. And Mr. Vance is attacking that?”

He continued, “Or, listen, we’ve got all these howling, far-left socialists, Mamdani, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), virtually the whole Democratic Party screaming for big government socialism or Communism in order to nationalize the economy and continue their antisemitic, hate-based policies railing against Israel and Jewish people in general. And Mr. Vance is somehow cross-ruffing to that? Well, I’m sure he means well in his job, and I don’t want this to sound personal, because I’ve always gotten along with him, but, frankly, I do not understand what he’s doing, and I truly believe he needs to step back for a moment, a great reset of his policy priorities, his statements, and his own actions.”

Condemning Israel in the current political environment is just pandering for free praise and accolades from the antisemitic MSM.
JD is just putting on lipstick and makeup for the Left.

Would JD EVER condemn Islam, Iran, Russia, Cuba, or China or ANY other nation for, quote 'manipulating', U.S. public opinion?
NO! He would never say that. Because it is not 'fashionable'. JD is simply jumping on the bandwagon.

What nation or movement does NOT try to manipulate public opinion? But it is only a BAD thing when Israel does it.

No, he's not @240B    Vance was honest from start to finish during the Rogan interview and the vitriol conservatives are throwing at him really doesn't make sense.   A little more from the interview:

Quote
"I definitely think you have seen this very discreet, extremely well-funded campaign to try to derail the negotiation and try to derail the deal,” the vice president told Rogan.

During their discussion, Vance referenced an article in Time that claimed former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale received $45 million to ensure the U.S. was all in on the war.

Parscale was paid to create an online campaign for Israel and produce 100 original pieces of content each month aimed to prevent young conservatives from turning against Israel, according to reporting from Time.

"When I open up the pages of Time magazine, and I see that there’s a literal foreign influence campaign being funded to tank the very deal that I was pursuing, and many of the people who were receiving that money were actually attacking me in completely dishonest ways,” said Vance, a former Marine and senator who strongly opposed foreign forever wars.

“You know, my response to that is, well, go to hell. I’m going to do what I have to do for the American people. I represent Americans first, and that’s the way that I’ve tried to do this job,” he added.

However, Vance said such efforts to undermine and influence American politics are expected.

“I should be clear, I don’t actually mind that — let’s say certain elements of the Israeli government want to criticize the deal or have disagreements about the deal. I don’t even mind an effort to try to influence foreign governments to try to influence the United States all the time. You know, Israel does it, other countries do it. It’s just sort of the nature of the beast,” he told Rogan.

“What bothers me is actually when American leadership allows that influence to affect their judgment and to affect what they are advocating for. That’s what really bothers me,” he added.

JD Vance is the Republican voice for progressivism

Ben Rothove  |  July 16, 2024.  |  5:26pm ET

Former President Donald Trump has selected Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) to be his running mate in November, signaling a monumental shift in the direction of the Republican Party away from conservatism as we know it.

Vance rose to fame with his memoir Hillbilly Elegy, which documented his childhood, interwoven with commentary about the culture of rural Appalachia. Vance enlisted in the Marines after high school, graduated from the Ohio State University, and then earned a law degree from Yale University. He was elected to the Senate in 2022, and he has since made a name for himself as one of the leading national populists on Capitol Hill.

Vance would be different from any Republican vice president in recent memory for numerous reasons: He would be the youngest since Richard Nixon, the first to have facial hair since Charles Curtis, and the least Conservative since Nelson Rockefeller.  .  .

No, I don't like them because they aren't source links (i.e. because they do not back up what you say).

And they're from "sources" like Axios and NYT.

Is VP Vance the Front Man in a Coup D’état?

The MAGA movement in the US has always been characterized by its pro-Israel nature. In fact, I have often described it as the most philosemitic political movement in US history, and I think that is a fair description. It is interesting and informing to recognize that the same people whose affinity towards the restoration of America to its former greatness is also highly supportive of the US-Israeli alliance. These two nations have had a profound influence on each other, from the very early hours of their respective declarations of statehood, even as Israel was not reconstituted as a state until some 173 years after America declared its independence.

It was supposed to be a pro-America movement.

It is.

Well, that's debatable... little really was known about Vance other than his life as a hillbilly through his book (and no I'm not knocking hillbillies) and him evolving into an educated politician.

What IS troubling is his alignment with Trump Jr. and Kushner and their real estate dealings in the M.E. and crypto and his recent alignment with Carlson.

He's made it clear that he didn't think we should have gone into Iran and he has reservations about the U.S. relationship with Israel.  He seems to have fallen away from his firm alignment with his boss.

At best, he's another Mike Pence.  Just my opinion.

Yes.  Exactly.  I don't think he can be trusted.

It is.

Maybe at one time, but it was completely hijacked.  The majority of original never-Trump crowd were the loser warmongers.  Americans kept voting them out, and Trump saw an opening.  But somehow they were allowed to gain control of MAGA while people like Vance were purged.

Yes.  Exactly.  I don't think he can be trusted.

Anyone who views government as part of the solution instead of part of the problem cannot be trusted.

But back to the issue at hand, Vance has revealed that he is a rank amateur when it comes to foreign policy, and more importantly diplomacy.  He really needs to stay out of this and keep his mouth shut instead of seeking a front row seat.

Also worth noting, Trump was sitting with Rubio at the World Cup match today.  Rubio understands that he projects the policies of his Commander-in-Chief on the world stage and does not have the luxury of his own opinion, which is something that Vance does not understand.

Pence was not purged by MAGA. Pence purged himself by openly betraying ANYTHING related to MAGA. Vance is following the Pence trail into oblivion.
The last thing in the world Pence would ever claim to be is MAGA. You cannot be 'purged' from something you were never involved in ever.
Pence was always just a 'go along to get along, do whatever he is told' spineless insider corporate shill Republican. And it turns out, so is JD.

If only someone had warned us about Vance back in 2024.  Oh wait . . . Conservatives did.

Speaking of conservatives ----  Could JD be a student of Barry Goldwater?   :pondering:

This war in Iran, and that's exactly what it is, will not end the way any of us would like to see. It doesn't matter what Israel is or is not doing, no matter what JD Vance is saying or not saying. If anyone has read Exekiel 38 & 39, we will know exactly finally destroys Iran. It will not be the USA, it will not be Israel, it will be God Almighty himself will be the destroyer of Islam.

As for whether or not Vance goes down the same trail as Benedict Pence, well, we'll see what happens. But I will tell you this, if he does, the GOP will likely be an absolute disaster in 2028, if not 2026 as well. There will be no singular message or platform. I dare say both parties will be in disarray, and the country will be in one heck of a mess.

No, Vance is not. He is the America First/ No Forever Wars guy.

How is Vance a "spineless insider shill Republican" when he's the one challenging the warmongering Republican/Conservative elites?

And that matters how?  JD was 4.
