The Number of Federal Jobs in Washington DC Just Hit a 30-Year Low

The Number of Federal Jobs in Washington DC Just Hit a 30-Year Low

The federal workforce in Washington, D.C., has hit a 30-year low as President Trump follows through on his promise to cut waste, fraud, and abuse from the federal government. The number of federal jobs in the DMV area has fallen by just over 60,000, from nearly 376,000 at the start of President Trump’s second term to 312,500 in May.

The cuts were largely driven by Elon Musk’s and President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), though the president has continued to press for workforce reductions ever since, with each new jobs report showing further shrinkage in the federal workforce.

The Department of Education took the heaviest blow, with nearly 40 percent of its workforce slashed in 2025 as Trump made clear his goal: to dismantle the agency outright. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Treasury weren't far behind, each shedding roughly a quarter of their staff, with the IRS bearing the brunt as the administration moved to gut tax enforcement.

Beyond those, USAID, Agriculture, HHS, the VA, and the Department of Labor all saw double-digit percentage losses in their workforce, with USAID and the USDA especially targeted.

Meanwhile, the exceptions, defense, and immigration enforcement agencies were spared, even bolstered, as reasserting American strength and mass deportations remained central pillars of the second Trump administration. Interestingly, staff was added to the two departments only government is equipped to run, while virtually all the cuts hit functions better left to the private sector.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump’s leadership and bold policies, America’s economy is back on track.

I say if Trump wanted to create a legacy of his being the greatest POTUS ever, he SHOULD ELIMINATE THE PERSONAL INCOME TAX.  57% of Americans pay zero taxes.  Yet, we all know folks making boku money and not paying a dime in taxes.  We are a consumer nation.  I say time to end the income tax and implement a consumption tax.

I know an architect who is retired now, made a six figure income most of his life and never once filed with the IRS, not a single tax return.  Not sure how he managed that, but he is just one I know.

I know another person living in a million dollar home, driving a new BMW, and is on Obamacare.  How does that happen?  Believe me, Trump has barely scratched the fraud that exist in the USA.

I have many friends that are going without healthcare insurance because they simply cannot afford it.  I am certain there are more people today without healthcare thanks to Obama and his UNAFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE PROGRAM than prior to its implementation..  One friend with five children said his premiums were $2,500 per month and he decided to go without healthcare, because he just could not afford the cost of premiums.

And regarding federal employees, he barely scratched the surface.  Done correctly, I am certain 50% of the federal workforce could be rifted.  The Musk approach was an Alexander Proudfoot on steroids approach, not the best way to appraoch the problem, which will be undone in large measure over time.  I can tell you now there is already talk of reinstalling a large percentage of folks that have been rifted back into the federal government.

Obamacare would not exist if Roberts hadn't rewritten the law to pass it. He turned a penalty we had all been repeatedly assured was "not a tax" into a tax, even though it originated in the Senate and not the House, and then ruled for it to continue. All as unconstitutional as Hell.

It cost me my health insurance, too. The wife and kids went onto Tribal health, and I did without. It would have cost $28,000 for insurance under Obamacare (family of 4), with a $14,000 deductible for a year.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Your story is common among my friends.  So many of them no longer have healthcare, where they once had it, with affordable premiums and small to no deductibles.  That clown did more damage to the USA, the average person in this country is utterly clueless the extent of the damage he wrought upon America.

I was on a consulting project in November, 2008.  We had promised the client $2 million in process improvements, delivered $22 million in improvements.  It was a steel plant.  We had six consultants at $15,000 per week for each of us looking for further improvements on their operations when Obama was elected POTUS.  By the end of that month, that company lost 90% of their business.  No joke.  They were forced to reduce the project by five consultants, keeping one person for one more month before shutting down the project.  I suspect that company is no longer in operation, thanks to Barrack Obama as are thousands of businesses that went poof all courtesy that clown.

But one never hears that being mentioned in conjunction with that *sshat.  Literally the worst POTUS in USA history, for it is he that opened the door for Wrecking Ball Joe.  At least Joe had an excuse, he was dead from the neck up, but Obama was just plain stupid about almost all things.  He had no business being POTUS.

Obama is the reason we need a Continental Congress to amend the Constitution.  I am sorry, but there is no 35 year old I would vote to be POTUS, nor any 40 year old.  And being born as a US citizen and being 35 years of age is grossly insufficient requirements to be POTUS, VPOTUS.  The time has come to amend that and beef up the requirements.

Equally important, the time has come to demand TERM LIMITS.  These clown in Congress are almost to the man/woman utterly worthless.  I can count on my one hand folks that are worth anything in Congress.  They no longer represent the American people, and so the time has come for them to be limited to the time they spend in Washington.  12 years and out, and no golden parachute for any of them.  That nonsense needs to end immediately!!!

Also of equal importance, the time has come for mandatory balanced budgets, with the sole exception being declared war by Congress.  These clowns have been spending money they do not have for far too long.

I'm not sure a Continental Congress would fix the problems we have, simply because there is absolutely no guarantee anyone who was involved could even pass a basic Civics test.
I do agree we need term limits, but getting that law through would be hard with the geriatric Congress clinging to power with their dying breaths.
Roberts continues to wreak havoc from the bench on crucial issues, namely the birthright citizenship issue, which was ruled on incorrectly. I have made that simple legal case on this forum.
What was supposed to be our last line of defense is no longer reliable with him as Chief Justice.
