No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

I don’t have a problem, but it should be daylight STANDARD time.  We were always told noon is the high point of the sun in our sky.  “Savings” (which is the mod, and implies it as well) means 1:00 high.  Doesn’t make sense.

If you live in the Western portion of any time zone, year-round DST means late sunrises in the winter (December - mid-February) well after 8:00am.

Examples for January 10th:

Tampa, FL -      Sunrise: 8:22am
Atlanta, GA -    Sunrise: 8:42am
Dallas, TX -      Sunrise: 8:30am
Louisville, KY -  Sunrise: 8:59am
S L City, UT -    Sunrise: 8:51am

That's why people complained about it the last time it was tried.

Standard time would be better - but it would also mean very early sunrises in the summer for people in the Eastern portion of their time zone.

Examples for June 10th:

Boston, MA  -   Sunrise: 4:07am
Chicago, IL -    Sunrise: 4:15am
Nashville, TN - Sunrise: 4:29am

You can check the results for your own location here: https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/usa

I would bet big money that the sun rose and set at the very same times in the year 1026 as it does in 2026 in every location on earth so can we PLEASE stop wasting millions of man hours messing with our clocks twice a year?

Daylight or Standard....   I don't care.  Just STOP making change our clocks every 6 months or so.

Typical DC ... Daylight Savings Time does not actually save daylight, it just redistributes daylight.

Before they don't learn to read or do math! Before they don't learn not to say "like" 10,000 times per day! Before they don't learn about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, or any American history before 1970!

I don’t have a problem, but it should be daylight STANDARD time.  We were always told noon is the high point of the sun in our sky.  “Savings” (which is the mod, and implies it as well) means 1:00 high.  Doesn’t make sense.

That's right. Leave time ALONE. If you want to jerk it around, then have school start at a different time in the winter.... Have businesses open later if they want to...

SHEESH! I have never understood this shit. But then, that's because I USUALLY tell time by looking at the SUN and the STARS!!! That's where time IS.

I like DST as a compromise. I live in a northern state, so neither of the two year-round same times is desirable: year-round DST means 9am sunrises in January, while year-round standard time would mean 4am sunrises in June. DST levels that out somewhat.

So if we're going to change to a standard that has no real association with sunrise, I say we might as well go all the way: switch to nationwide UTC. The whole country uses the same time, set by international standard. Let the states and communities decide when they will open and close their businesses based on the UTC standard.

I'm in a minority on this, I will acknowledge

Only in the USA.  The rest of the world does not do this nonsense.  I always considered springing forward and falling back to be a pain in the posterior.  So, leaving it set is fine with me.

And the idea of having one zone for the whole of the USA is a novel idea, but again, it would have parts of the country functioning when it is dark outside, when it might not be desirable.  If I am not mistaken, the original concept was to benefit the farming community, so that they could we actively working when the sun was up.  Having one set time for the whole country would have people getting up in the pitch black and working which might not be ideal on a farm, or elsewhere for that matter.

I can answer that for @MeganC ...

It wouldn't. outfits that are tied to the land operate from 'can see' to 'can't see'. and then some. Clocks don't mean sh*t. Go tell the rooster it's Daylight Savings Time, why don'tcha? 😁👍

Nationwide UTC would change the way we look at time. Things like midnight and noon, AM and PM would no longer have legal meaning. For example, on the East Coast, instead of going to school from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the day would run from 1200 to 1900 UTC. On the West Coast, the school day would run from 1500 to 2200 UTC. It would be an adjustment, not unlike the kind that other countries did with metrication in the 1970s. But once we separate our expectations of time from where the sun is in the sky, that would free society and local governments from dealing with local time altogether. As I said before, all of the options for local time (permanent DST, permanent standard, and summer-time DST) have undesirable side effects. If we scrap local time altogether, that allows communities, organizations and individuals to set their schedules as their needs fit, not to the diktat of when a state or federal government says those things should happen.

The federal government already uses UTC as its default. You tune into the time signal on shortwave, and UTC is what they use for all announcements.

Once time is changed one way or another, leave it alone.  For crying out loud there are more important issues that  we face.
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

If there is to be just one time, then it should be "Standard."

I don’t owe tolerance to people who disagree with my existence.
I will NOT comply.

MeganC, you are a rancher, how would it affect your operation?

Not at all. Bison, chickens, horses, hogs, apples, cherries, trees, etc. don't care about clocks. Neither do we. Like you ride the fence line and you're done when you're done, not at 5pm sharp.

It affects my cooking because it's advantageous to cook things that might need to wait an hour or more for the last people to eat. Soups, stews, roasts, things like that. Fancy pasta dinners...not so much.

When the symbol of anti-government resistance is your national flag then your government is the enemy of your nation.

I can answer that for @MeganC ...

It wouldn't. outfits that are tied to the land operate from 'can see' to 'can't see'. and then some. Clocks don't mean sh*t. Go tell the rooster it's Daylight Savings Time, why don'tcha? 😁👍
