Long have Democrats and other leftists said that guns are the problem in shooting deaths. We must eliminate the guns! Is their battle cry.

But the argument ignores the fact that, with only a few exceptions for accidental discharges, each time a gun is fired at an individual, there are hands holding the gun and a finger pulling the trigger, meaning it's the person doing the violence, not the tool.

Now one member of Congress has taken the leftist ideology even further: If a car is attacking Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, they should "shoot the tires."

Not the driver.

The comments are from Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas.

Talking about the recent shooting by an officer of an Mexican national during a confrontation, she said.

"If they really think that a car is going to hurt somebody, you shoot the tires. You don't shoot the driver."

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
If the vehicle is coming directly at you, what presents the better target?

Are you going to squat to get a good shot at the tires, or shoot the driver while trying to get out of the way?

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

And even IF you get lucky and hit one or more of the tires, that's not going to stop a barreling vehicle full of inertia and forward momentum.

What an idiot.  We're certainly sending our best and brightest to Congress, aren't we?

I have long wondered just what real world knowledge these people have that would even begin to make them qualified to make rules for the rest of us. Lately, it seems we are getting rejects from any worthwhile industry, Kinda beyond 'those who can, do, those who can't, teach', and those who don't know enough to teach go into politics.
