We were told to eat less red meat. It may have unleashed an environmental catastrophe
A boom in industrial chicken farming is creating a waste product that campaigners claim is ‘like asbestos’ for our waterways

By Rosa Silverman

Excerpt:

The river Wye is where British tourism started. Winding its way from Wales’s Cambrian Mountains down to Chepstow and the Severn Estuary, its beauty has drawn visitors since the mid-1700s. Today, the picturesque Wye Valley still attracts millions of tourists a year.

However, campaigners say its long-treasured waters are being poisoned – by our love of chicken dinners and the intensive poultry farming required to feed this hunger.

All their roads lead to Soylent Green.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
What a waste. Properly composted, avian manure is one heck of a fertilizer.

It's the British. They've been having trouble getting their sh*t together since the 'refugees' started coming in.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

That it is. And just a little dab will do. Too much will burn the fertilized plants.

Heh. Eggzackly (did you see what I did there) where my head was going...

Bed em on a carbon rich bedding... clean the litter out regularly and stack it into piles... Keep the internal temp of those piles 150-160 degrees by watering it if necessary... Turn the piles from time to time...

And two years from now... Throw it on your fields and watch them burst forth.

It's God's economy. It starts with dirt and shit. A big stack of shit is immeasurable wealth.  happy77

I just watched Soylent Green again and am committing to eating anything not green, including red meat.

Having lived in the UK years ago and tasted British beef, it is not seem unusual to refrain from eating it, at least for me. Tough to chew.  Roasts are rolled up for a reason.

However, Scottish beef was ok.

A lot in in the finishing. Adds marbling to the muscle, which adds flavor and cooks up more tender.

I actually believe the reason to be that old and excess male dairy cows make up the bulk of British beef.

Years of driving the UK countryside I saw plenty of dairy cattle, but very few beef cattle.

That and the affinity the Brits have for lamb, chicken and fish

Which could be a result of having a tough, stringy beef supply...
