Strait of Hormuz security threat level remains 'SEVERE,' maritime watchdog says

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) warned that the threat level in the Strait of Hormuz remains "SEVERE" in a Friday update.

"Notwithstanding recent unprovoked attacks on merchant vessels, mariners are reminded that the southern route of the SoH has been expanded and remains available for all traffic," the organization warned in a Friday advisory.

The advisory counseled mariners to maintain contact with NATO's Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS) and to watch out for mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

Twenty-two vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday amidst renewed U.S. and Iranian strikes, Fox News' Lauren Simonetti reported. Two of the 22 were oil tankers.

The 22 vessels that crossed Thursday surpassed the daily average that crossed the key oil shipping route at the Iran war's height in April and May, but it's far less than the daily average of 50 vessels that transited in June after the U.S. and Iran agreed to a partial ceasefire on June 14.

Before the war's February kickoff, an average of more than 120 vessels crossed the Strait daily, according to data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development

Rest in pieces

Khamenei officially buried at Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad

Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was finally laid to rest early Friday at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, Iran, according to a statement posted by his official office.

“In the early hours of Friday, July 10, 2026, the pure body of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei … was laid to rest in the luminous shrine of Imam Reza,” Khamenei’s official X account said.

The burial concludes several days of funeral ceremonies that took Khamenei’s body through Iraq and Iran following his death during the conflict with Israel and the United States.

Israel warned US of new Iranian plot to kill Trump: report
By Victor Nava
Published July 9, 2026
Updated July 9, 2026, 10:39 p.m. ET

Israel recently shared intelligence with the US about a new Iranian plot to assassinate President Trump, according to a report.

The latest assassination plan, reported by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, comes after years of Iranian regime threats to kill Trump as revenge for the 2020 killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Gen. Qasem Soleimani by US forces.

When asked for comment, the White House referred The Post to Trump’s Wednesday remarks at the NATO summit in Ankara.

“They want to take out the US leader — me,” Trump said. “I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long.”

“These are evil, sick people,” the president continued. “And we have to root out that cancer. That cancer. You know what you do? You’ve got to cut out cancer early. And that’s the way I feel.”

‘They Have Not Been Effective’: FNC’s Kilmeade Says Trump Should Replace Kushner, Witkoff in Iran Talks

Thursday on Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” co-host Brian Kilmeade said Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner “have not been effective” and called for their removal from the administration’s negotiations with Iran.

Kilmeade said, “Iran didn’t realize they had the outline of a framework of a deal if a lifetime. That is you leave the strait alone you get the funds eventually unfrozen. You begin to sell oil, then you survive to live another day. But instead, you’re back to a destroyed economy, a capital that doesn’t have any water, and strategically, we are blowing up their airlines, we are taking down the missile defense. We’re taking down their drone operations. This isn’t just random let them feel pain. They know exactly what they’re doing. Ultimately, they have to retake the strait themselves. I know there’s a multiple plans I hope the president picks the right one.”

He added, “I also don’t think that Witkoff and Kushner should be the ones doing this,” he said. “They’re business guys. They have not been effective in Ukraine, not been effective in Gaza. They have not been effective in this. They can’t have three portfolios to begin with. We have a State Department for a reason.”

Iran's regime won't honor any agreement, it doesn't matter who negotiates it.  If we have Rubio negotiate, we'll be expected to honor any agreement even when Iran reneges (I didn't say "if")! That's unacceptable.

Kellogg: We Shouldn’t Talk to Iran Until They Open Strait, Give Up Uranium, Leave Neighbors Alone

On Thursday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow,” former Trump National Security Adviser and former Trump Envoy Keith Kellogg said that Iran should have to allow inspections and the removal of their enriched uranium and centrifuges, open the Strait of Hormuz, and leave their neighbors alone as a precondition for any future talks with the U.S.

Kellogg said, “I’d give them three demands: Number one, we’re going to have inspection with IAEA, go into Iran, unfettered, with American advisers, and get your enriched uranium and the centrifuges as well, and get them out of the country. That’s demand number one. Demand number two, the Strait of Hormuz is going to get open. If we have to do it by force, we’ll do it by force. And, by the way, if you happen to attack a vessel and something happens to that vessel, we are going to take the frozen assets, make them fungible, and repay that company or that shipping line for the loss of their freighter or tanker. And number three, lay off your neighbors. What I mean by that is stop supporting the Houthis, you’re going to stop supporting Hezbollah, you’re going to stop shooting at the UAE or Bahrain or Kuwait. And if you follow through with those three, we can talk. If not, we’re not talking any longer.”

Later, he added that the U.S. should attack Iranian leaders whenever they threaten the life of President Donald Trump.

Trump reiterates 'cease fire is over' despite US agreeing to Iran's request for more talks

President Donald Trump said Friday the United States has agreed to resume talks with Iran but reiterated that the ceasefire is over.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue “talks.” We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!" Trump wrote in a Friday morning post on Truth Social.

Trump had already declared the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding (MOU) — including its ceasefire provisions — over after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Kilmeade is right about this in my opinion.

Why @mystery-ak?  Kushner and Witkoff made enormous and unprecedented regional and European progress in Gaza .... They led the negotiations for all hostages (dead and alive) being returned to Israel, they ushered in a ceasefire that had held, were thisclose to agreement on processes for Israeli retreat and Hamas disarmament, presented an accepted structure for regional and international management of a post-Hamas Gaza and had begun making inroads into financial investments from regional and European powers to support Gaza's reconstruction and revised economy.

The Gaza negotiations were so successful and on track that the only way to stop the complete implementation of the peace plan was a wider war with Iran --- at the urging of Israel.

As for war negotiations with Iran ---  Are the Iranians genetically untrustworthy as has been reported here daily, or are Kushner, Witkoff and the full US negotiating team now incompetent?  I'm genuinely confused.

Who else is dropping bombs on Iran this time...and it's not the Jooos.

No one claimed responsibility Friday for airstrikes that hit Iran after the U.S. said it finished its attacks, leaving questions about who else may be targeting the Islamic Republic.

U.S. Central Command spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins said there were "no operational updates" after Trump's pronouncement about the ceasefire.

CNN Exclusive: New satellite imagery reveals Iran may be rebuilding suspected nuclear facilities

Exclusive satellite imagery obtained and analyzed by CNN in collaboration with the Institute for Science and International Security shows signs Iran may be attempting to rebuild its nuclear facilities. The activity raises questions as to whether Iran violated the memorandum of understanding it signed with the US in late June – even before President Trump seemed to signal its end by launching fresh strikes on the country. CNN’s Katie Polglase reports.

🇮🇷 ☢️ New satellite imagery from @vantortech , analyzed by the Institute for Science and International Security, covers four Iranian nuclear sites as of late June: Natanz, Pickaxe Mountain, Fordow, and Esfahan. Three show no meaningful change since the war. One shows something that reads as a direct MOU violation.

At Natanz, almost nothing has moved. The access points to the underground enrichment halls remain unrepaired, personnel entrances still destroyed, vehicle entrances still severely damaged. HVAC chillers sit displaced across the complex, and both primary and backup power systems remain destroyed. A single vehicle was spotted near the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant, destroyed in the original strikes and since covered over by Iran, but nothing suggesting active reconstruction.

At Esfahan, as of June 29: no observed activity at all. The tunnel portals remain backfilled with dirt, exactly as documented in yesterday's imagery. Iran buried its own facility and has left it buried.

At Fordow, Iran added earthen and rocky mounds to the roads leading to the tunnel entrances between May 10 and 18, precisely spaced to form chicanes, deliberate obstacles designed to slow any vehicle trying to rapidly enter or exit the tunnels, not simple debris. Those mounds remain in place as of June 21. The tunnel portals themselves are still backfilled.

⚠️ Pickaxe Mountain is the outlier, and the concerning one. Vehicle activity is now visible on roads leading to the open Western tunnel portals, indicating active construction and hardening work inside the tunnel complex itself. The Institute is explicit about what that means: the MOU signed between the U.S. and Iran requires Iran maintain the status quo at nuclear-related facilities, which should prohibit exactly this kind of construction. Iran separately backfilled the Eastern tunnel portals with dirt back in early May, blocking ground vehicle access there entirely, likely to control ingress and egress rather than abandon the site.

So while Natanz and Esfahan sit frozen and Fordow gets passive defensive upgrades, Pickaxe Mountain is under active construction, in a category of facility the interim agreement specifically says should not be changing at all.

Barak Ravid: the Trump administration is demanding Iran issue a public statement Saturday acknowledging the Strait of Hormuz is open and committing to stop firing on commercial ships, per U.S. officials in a briefing with reporters Friday.

This gives concrete shape to everything vaguer floating around this week, "talks continue," "ceasefire is over," the four-way call reportedly being arranged between the U.S., Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar, Araghchi's trip to Oman tomorrow. Now there's an actual deadline and a specific deliverable: not a negotiated document, but a public Iranian acknowledgment, on the record, within roughly 24 hours.

Which will mean exactly nothing.

Were the death threats a mistake also?

REPORT: Iran Privately Admits Strait of Hormuz Attack Was a ‘Mistake,’ Pushes to Resume Negotiations

Iran reportedly told Trump advisers the Strait of Hormuz attacks were the work of a rogue hardline group and not a deliberate government decision.

Iran has reportedly told the Trump administration behind closed doors that the attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz were not intended as official government action and were instead carried out by a rogue hardline faction seeking to derail ongoing negotiations, according to senior U.S. officials cited by CBS News senior White House reporter Jennifer Jacobs.

The White House, however, is pushing Tehran to publicly admit it was responsible, arguing the incident breached the ceasefire agreement. Despite the incident, President Donald Trump has instructed Vice President JD Vance, Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to press ahead with diplomatic talks, which are expected to take place in Oman.

Iranian state media report explosions across the country

Iran's state-operated media outlet Mehr reported explosions east of Tehran on Saturday, citing ordinance disposal.

"Mohammad Qomi, the governor of Pakdasht County, said the blast heard in eastern Tehran on Saturday morning resulted from a planned operation to destroy old ammunition and was not related to any accident or security threat," the outlet wrote.

Qomi, according to Mehr, assured the Iranian public that the explosions were pre-planned and were no reason for concern.

The reports followed a series of U.S. strikes across Iran on Wednesday and Thursday morning in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's new Supreme Leader vows revenge for his father Ali Khamenei's death in social media blast

Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei vowed to avenge the death of his father, former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a Saturday morning barrage of posts on X.

"We pledge to avenge your pure blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two [recent] wars by taking revenge against the criminal, disgraceful murderers. This vengeance is what our nation is demanding, and this must definitely be done," Khamenei wrote.

The 86-year-old Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 in joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes that struck his compound in Tehran.

"The criminal, disgraceful murderers of the martyred Leader, whose names are fully documented from the highest to the lowest ranks, will carry their dream of a peaceful death in bed to the grave," the new supreme leader added in his social media screed.

Iran held official funeral services for Ali Khameni over the past week, with state media reporting that more than 40 million people attended some portion of the week-long ceremonies.

Mojtaba Khamenei thanked the funeral goers in his Saturday morning post thread.

"I extend my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible, enemy-shattering, and historic turnout of tens of millions of people across Iran and Iraq," he wrote.

So now the Government of Iran is saying they aren't responsible for the attacks on shipping in the Strait?  How cute...must have been elves.

Nasty little djinn, anyway.

If those attacks were carried out by hard line factions without orders, then there will surely be repercussions for those using military power against the wishes of the Regime?

No more than the Japanese punished those who took Manchuria.

That's kinda like Martin Bormann telling Churchill in 1945 that those last V-2 strikes were a mistake and not the fault of the Nazi civilian government, just some die hard Waffen SS nutcases.

What did they say about the follow-up missile attacks on Bahrain?
