Iran’s Top Diplomat Refuses to Directly Engage with U.S. Until Tehran’s Demands Are Met

There will be no direct talks between Iran and the U.S. as long as Washington continues to ignore Tehran’s demands for solving the Strait of Hormuz dispute, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday.

Reuters reports the Islamic state’s top diplomat added messages are being exchanged via intermediaries – not directly between the two parties.

Araqchi repeated Iran’s position that an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz between Tehran and Muscat was ‌in the “final stages” but would not reopen the strategic waterway.

In comments reported by Mehr news agency and seen by Reuters, Araqchi said the agreement would set out the new shipping lanes to be used once the U.S. fulfils other conditions and the strait is reopened to traffic.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards maintain the Strait of Hormuz closure remains “until the enemy accepts all our conditions… the strait is now actually a theatre of war for us and not just a waterway”.

Araqchi spoke just hours after Iran’s top national security official told the United States it must “correct its behavior,” issuing a sweeping list of demands as Vice President JD Vance said Washington remains in the “middle of the game” and is continuing to apply diplomatic, economic, and military pressure on Tehran, as Breitbart News reported.

Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and a former senior IRGC commander, demanded the United States end military action, vacate all military assets from the region and drop threats against Iran and its regional allies.

He also stipulated Washington must lift its naval blockade, compensate Tehran for war damages, lift sanctions, and unconditionally release frozen Iranian assets.

“Until America corrects its behavior, the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened,” Zolghadr said in a statement carried by Iranian state media.

The ultimate taco is baking in the oven:

Trump willing to end war, declare victory on Iran with no nuclear deal, officials say - report

Excerpt:
The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump privately floated the idea with senior aides, with Iran's reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping a key condition.

According to the officials, Trump privately floated the idea to his senior aides. If the US can keep Iran's nuclear program in check and traffic resumes in the Strait of Hormuz, then Trump would be more likely to extend the ceasefire "indefinitely," the officials told WSJ.

In recent weeks, the president told senior aides privately that Tehran is "likely unable to revive its nuclear work," after Operation Midnight Hammer caused heavy damage to Iran's nuclear infrastructure in June 2025, the officials added.

And more bad news for 47:

Israel rejects Trump's 15-point plan for Gaza, Netanyahu says

Excerpt:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected US President Donald Trump's 15-point plan for Gaza, stating that no military pull-out will happen until Hamas is "genuinely" disarmed.

Trump's Board of Peace said last month it had reached an agreement for the "complete disarmament" of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza.

But Hamas said handing over its heavy weapons was contingent on Israel ending "all forms of aggression" and withdrawing its forces from Gaza.

Houthi attacks kill at least seven people at Red Sea port, Yemen says

Iran-backed Houthi rebels killed at least seven people and injured more than a dozen others in an attack Sunday on the crucial Red Sea port of Mokha, Yemen's National Resistance Forces said.

The group, which is allied with Yemen's internationally recognized government, said four troops and three civilians were killed, while 15 civilians were injured in the attack on the Red Sea port.

Fayed al-Noman, an official with Yemen's information ministry, said the Houthis fired missiles and drones at Mokha, severely damaging buildings and a pier as well as commercial goods and food supplies stored at the facility.

The Houthis later claimed responsibility, saying they launched “a large number of ballistic missiles and drones” targeting military forces and warehouses in the area.

Mokha is one of the main ports controlled by Yemen's internationally recognized government and has been renovated in recent years to accommodate shipping that avoids Houthi-held ports in Hodeida.

The deadly attack came as the Houthis also claimed a drone strike on a Saudi Aramco refinery in Jazan, Saudi Arabia. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said that attack was in response to Saudi drones allegedly breaching Yemeni airspace over Hajjah and Saada.

Saudi Arabia's Energy Ministry reported a fire at the Aramco facility early Sunday but did not identify its cause. The ministry said the fire was extinguished and there were no casualties.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Iran claims elusive supreme leader met with country's president

Iran claimed Sunday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the country's economy, military and ongoing war, as questions persist over Khamenei's prolonged absence from public view.

Khamenei met and spoke with Pezeshkian as the president began the third year of his term, according to a post to an X account associated with the elusive supreme leader.

“In this meeting, the country’s issues, meeting the people’s basic needs in particular, the current situation of the Third Imposed War with a look to the future, developments in the military, and measures for securing resources and managing spending in terms of ‘domestic currency, foreign currency, and energy’ were discussed,” the post read.

Khamenei and Pezeshkian also exchanged views on Iran's economic relations with international partners, according to the post.

Iran's claim comes as scrutiny continues over Khamenei's whereabouts and condition. The supreme leader has not been seen publicly since being appointed to the position in March.

Earlier Sunday, an Iranian official said footage showing Khamenei in public and meeting with armed forces commanders would be released in the future, according to Reuters.

Separately, Iran's semiofficial Mehr news agency released undated footage Sunday apparently showing Khamenei, The Associated Press reported. The AP said it could not independently verify when or where that video was recorded.

Okey dokey... :doa:

Footage of Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to be released soon: report

An Iranian official said footage of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei appearing in public and meeting with military commanders will be released, according to a report, as separate undated video apparently showing the elusive leader surfaced Sunday.

Basij Organization deputy Qasem Qoraishi said footage showing Khamenei “among the people and out in streets” and in meetings with armed forces commanders would be released in the future, Reuters reported, citing Iran's judiciary-linked Mizan news outlet.

The report appeared aimed at quashing speculation about Khamenei's health, according to Reuters. Khamenei, who was appointed supreme leader in March, has not been seen publicly since taking the position.

Separately, Iran's semiofficial Mehr news agency shared an undated video Sunday apparently showing Khamenei, according to The Associated Press.

The AP said it could not independently verify when or where the footage was recorded. Mehr previously shared a video in March that appeared to have been recorded at the same event, apparently a jurisprudence class.

It remains unclear why Mehr released the footage Sunday or whether it is connected to the video Qoraishi said would be released.

Khamenei reportedly sustained serious injuries during the opening stages of the U.S.-Iran war. Senior Iranian sources have said he suffered facial disfigurement and other injuries in the Feb. 28 strike that killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Reuters reported.

The AP reported that Khamenei is understood to have stopped publicly teaching in 2024.

President Trump on Sunday suggested that he’s going to let economic pressures prompt Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz rather than launch another military action.

“We are low keying it,”Trump told Axios. Trump’s comments came hours after Iran said that it wouldn’t reopen the crucial waterway unless the US met its demands--which included never insulting or threatening the country, per Axios.

“We are only semi-negotiating with them,” Trump also told the news website. “We are just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact they have no money.”

Trump, who said Iran “is in very bad shape,” claimed that Americans are feeling less financial pressures from the war because oil prices are down.

“It will work out. It always works out. It’s like a chess game,”Trump also reportedly said.

William Mumford was executed for treason in 1862 even though war was never declared.  The US has issued five declarations of war, with WW11 being the last.

What, at $4.19 per gallon?

Gas prices can be reduced if citizens would petition their state to temporarily reduce state per gallon taxes to offset.  A state, say Pennsylvania, has a 57 cents/gal on its pump price, so there is certainly room to help out.

Georgia already did that.

Short term pain for long term gain.

Good luck getting PA's worthless State Legislature and Josh Shapiro to listen to such petitions.

The fact of the matter is that price of gasoline averaged around $2.79 per gallon in Jaunary 2026.  Trump launched the war against Iran in February, and that average shot up to around $4.79 per gallon in March.  I just returned from a fill-up, and the price was $4.19 per gallon.

And Trump is content at leaving it there, and calling it a "win?"

Then it is a state decision to keep prices high.  The choice is yours to remain there.

And the history of crude prices demonstrate that prices fluctuate both ways, so little doubt it will go back down.

BTW, Trump did not launch a war.  Iran did that in 1979 when it invaded our soil and has been continuing to kill our citizens since.

You should be attacking Iran instead of our own people.

Iran airs rare clip of supreme leader — but here’s why it does nothing to dispel dire health rumors
By Ronny Reyes
Published Aug. 9, 2026, 5:00 p.m. ET
Iran released a rare video Sunday of its supreme leader appearing in prime condition amid his long absence from the public eye and swirling reports of deteriorating health.

The country’s semi-official Mehr News Agency flaunted video of Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, sitting in a circle and speaking with a group of men, with no context of when or where the scene took place.

Khamenei was notably free of any of the horrific injuries he was believed to have suffered in the initial airstrikes of the war that killed his father, suggesting the video was taken before the conflict began.
