Millions warned to brace for blackouts as extreme wildfire threat sweeps across nine states: 'Particularly dangerous situation'

Daily Mail

26 June 2026

Millions of Americans have been warned to prepare for possible power outages as a sprawling outbreak of extreme fire weather threatens nine states this weekend.

The National Weather Service (NWS) offices from Arizona to Alaska have issued Red Flag Warnings, citing a volatile combination of powerful winds, bone-dry air and tinderbox conditions that could allow any spark to explode into a fast-moving wildfire.

The warnings affect parts of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Alaska.

In some areas, forecasters warned that gusts could reach 55mph while humidity levels plunge as low as five percent.

Officials said the conditions are so severe that parts of Utah have been placed under a rare 'Particularly Dangerous Situation' designation, with residents urged to prepare emergency kits and know their evacuation routes.

The dangerous fire weather outbreak begins Friday and intensifies over the weekend, with most Red Flag Warnings taking effect between Friday morning and Saturday morning and lasting through Sunday evening in some areas.

Forecasters cautioned that downed power lines could ignite new fires and trigger blackouts. Residents are being urged to avoid outdoor burning, refrain from using equipment that could create sparks and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.

Officials said the threat to life and property is significant and cautioned that safe and timely evacuations may not be possible if a wildfire rapidly approaches.

FWIW, I have a Red Flag warning here for the next 24-36 hours.
I don’t owe tolerance to people who disagree with my existence.
I will NOT comply.

Local weather forecasters have been warning us about the smoke coming into our area from Canadian wildfires. This seems to happen several times a year, every year. I think they need more firefighters in Canuckistan, or something.

🚨 NYC ALERT: With wildfire smoke affecting air quality, NYC libraries are giving out free N95 masks. Because apparently wearing a tight-fitting N95 in 103° heat is now part of the summer experience. Choose between breathing smoky air or sweating through a mask.

Here in the southwest corner of New England, it's 4pm and almost dark enough to need the lights on inside. The air outside is yellow...

You can blame Canadian PM Carney and Trudeau for years of terrible wildfire management

Well, now that the fires have burned off the NW, the East is getting the kind of smoke we've had for the past few years. It wasn't 'news' when we couldn't see 100 yards.

Burned off? Nah. No where near... We've just had a couple good years where the rains came right... It's raining here right now... Hopefully that keeps up a while... Then if we can pretty well miss triple digits next month, then we might put another summer in the NO SMOKE box.

Just imagine how much of the supposed housing crisis could have been alleviated if those trees had been cut into lumber.

It's ironic as Hell that the selfsame people who claimed the trees were sacrosanct and came up with miserable forest management plans based on their dogma, now are bitching about breathing in all that pollution and causing global warming through blowing carbon emissions through the roof.

That's right. Go ahead you bastards, tell us sommore of your bunnyhugger bullcrap as to why we have to leave all that buckbrush and them trees alone (which are basically full of paint thinner - You want to talk about flammable... You want to talk about air quality and pollutants... )... I wonder how many years of smog control are offset by one - Just one - serous forest fire... *****rollingeyes*****

Quite agree. We have a friend who worked for decades in forest management and he's given us an earful about how stupid the anti-logging weenies are.

Apocalyptic scenes as deadly toxic air engulfs America's biggest cities and grim map reveals exactly where is next

Daily Mail
By SOPHIE GABLE
17 July 2026

As Canada was ravaged by wildfires amid surging temperatures, smoke engulfed major US cities, creating a hazy, apocalyptic scene and warnings for residents not to breathe in the toxic air.

More than 850 wildfires burned across Canada on Thursday, ravaging multiple communities and causing evacuations near Lake Superior in Ontario.

As Canadians work overnight to tame the flames, the smoke from the fire has migrated south, causing a toxic air crisis throughout major US cities.

A mesmerizing graphic shared by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration revealed the thick grey haze traveling across the eastern US on Wednesday afternoon.

The smoke culminated in a daunting circle above eastern Canada and parts of the American Northeast.

Strong winds coupled with intense heat pushed the smoke into the atmosphere. A path of air called a jet stream can be seen in the NOAA satellite imagery taking hold across the eastern US and Canada.

Wildfire smoke is more toxic than polluted air and can linger for weeks. Fires can burn cars and buildings, meaning their smoke contains traces of chemicals, metals, plastics and synthetic materials.

New York City resembled a Gotham nightmare on Thursday, as an intense heat gripped residents, smoke created a thick haze and air quality levels reached 'very unhealthy levels.'

It's a bare fact. It's like telling everybody in the Midwest to quit farming. It's a friggin joke that hurts families to this very day. and the smoke is the product, instead of millions of board feet of wealth.  **nononono*

It's a good thing they didn't cut down those trees to build more housing.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the Greens' "Back To The 70's" Hazardous Air Quality warnings.

It was totally worth the cost of low-sulfur diesel to have the opporunity to inhale forest fire particulates.  Doesn't quite have the flavor of my parents' King 100's Cigarettes.

Trees are considered renewable resources because you can plant new trees to replace the ones you cut down.

Canadian Wildfire Smoke Spreads Across U.S., Triggering Air Quality Alerts

From Legal Insurrection

Recurring wildfire smoke raises questions about Canadian forest management.

Posted by Leslie Eastman

For the past several years, we have covered the smoke emanating from blazes in Canada’s mismanaged forests. Furthermore, a number of the fires were investigated for potential arson.

Now, over 800 wildfires are being reported across Canada, with smoke affecting air quality in New York.

When I was in the Navy, a bit more than 50 years ago, I worked in Meteorology and if I were reporting the weather, I'd would have had to call the sky in SW Michigan obscured which meant the smoke was so thick you can't see the clouds.  I think Trump should sue the Canadians for allowing the conditions in their country get so bad my health is endangered.  You know, kind of like suing gas producers for the pollution caused by drivers.  Cars don't cause pollution if people don't drive them, so ultimately the drivers are the cause.

Muslims are known to deliberately start wildfires in Europe and in Israel. Not for the fire itself.
Because they are commanded to destroy the Infidels, and they love any chaos they can stir up.
There is a very good reason that NO - NONE Muslim countries allow Muslim "refugees" to enter.

If it was American fires clogging the air of the Syrupeans, they’d never shut the fu*k up about it. Half would apply for MAID, the other would be at the UN
