A footballer's wife was killed in Venezuela's devastating earthquakes as she acted to save the life of her one-year-old daughter.

Rescuers found Andrea Bello's body among the rubble, but her daughter Alana survived following her mother's efforts to shield her during their home's collapse.

In raw social media posts, husband Hector Bello, a defender for Venezuela’s second division side Marítimo de La GuairaBello shared his heartbreak, saying: 'You left us alone in the fight, mummy. You left me all alone with our daughter.

'Andrea, how do I explain to your daughter that you lost your life to save hers and I wasn't there in that moment to do anything? How do I explain? Give me strength now because I can't take any more.'  .  .  .

Lucas Trejo's wife, Yanina Maranella, and their two children, Aarón and Ainhoa, were killed in the devastating back-to-back earthquakes in Venezuela.

After two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, hit overnight on Wednesday, June 24, Deportivo la Guaira shared that the Argentine soccer player's family was tragically killed during what the U.S. Geological Survey described as a “severe seismic doublet sequence.”

“From the #DLG we join the grief that overwhelms player Lucas Trejo, for the sensitive passing of his wife, Yanina Maranella, and of his children, Aarón and Ainhoa Trejo,” the team wrote on social media. “Peace to their souls and comfort for Lucas and all his loved ones.”

Time is running out to rescue those trapped in Venezuela, officials say

The death toll has risen to 1,719 following Wednesday’s earthquakes as rescuers and community members dig through the rubble and tens of thousands are unaccounted for.

With tens of thousands of people still unaccounted, criticism over the government’s emergency response and limited access to heavy equipment in the hardest-hit state La Guaira continues to grow.

Three Americans are among those killed in the earthquakes, a senior official of the Trump administration told NBC News.

Of the roughly 5,000 Americans believed to be in Venezuela, 12 are missing and more than 300 have reached out to the U.S. State Department requesting assistance, according to a second senior administration official.

A task force of the U.S. State Department is currently coordinating emergency response efforts in Venezuela, the second senior administration official said.
