VIDEO: "Rain Day" Hanging Chicken Barrel BBQ

The reason "Rain Day" is in quotes is that despite the weather website absolutely predicting a 100% chance of rain for the day that I did the BBQ, not a drop fell. However, despite the fact that I wanted to demonstrate that you could BBQ in the rain as long as you had overhead protection, this video does reveal what a terrific method the snake chain is for providing steady heat for your BBQ. For most of the 3 1/2 hours of BBQing in my Weber with the barrel extension the temperature remained locked in at the sweet spot of between 240 and 250 degrees.

This video also helps illustrate why I am convinced that hanging meat over indirect heat is the best way for smoking in contrast to placing it directly on the grill. The one exception could be chicken wings which I plan to smoke today using my VORTEX attachment. However, tomorrow I will be hanging picanhas from the hooks again and then reverse searing them with the aid of the VORTEX.

BTW, I used no BBQ sauce for the chicken although I did dip the meat on my plate in Polynesian Thai sweet chili sauce.

You'll be seeing a lot more of them in the near future. The barrel extension for my Weber was the big game changer. Also I picked up a VORTEX to use for basically  turning the  inside of my Weber Kettle into a convection oven. I will be using that later today to smoke 60 chicken wings. It takes 40 minutes total. I'll probably do another video in a couple of weeks when I use the barrel extension to smoke 4 racks of ribs using the pork lard butcher paper method which works perfectly every time in contrast to the 3-2-1 method which is hit and miss. Tomorrow I will be hanging two pincanhas inside the barrel extension for smoking and then reverse searing them on the VORTEX attachment.

Back  in April the payment rate at Rumble fell off a cliff. Hopefully that was just temporary so I decided to wait it out. And then in early May we went on vacation for a couple of weeks in Spain.  And for the past week since we got back I haven't been able to shake the jet lag which hit me hard. Hopefully back to normal rate of posting videos soon.
