Thomas Massie and Bill Cassidy Lost. MAGA Won. Bigly.
The decline of the RINO reverberates throughout the land.

Joseph Ford Cotto | May 28, 2026

This spring, two high-profile Republican incumbents on Capitol Hill learned a brutal truth. Disloyalty to Donald J. Trump carries an unforgiving electoral price, and the old guard's time on its beloved throne has run out.

Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana stood as the textbook embodiment of the pre-Trump GOP establishment. A physician by training with deep roots in state politics, he built his career on fiscal conservatism, policy expertise, bipartisanship on issues like infrastructure, and a steady focus on delivering federal resources while operating within institutional norms.

Elected to the Senate in 2014, Cassidy represented the measured, consensus-oriented conservatism that defined the GOP before MAGA populism reshaped it. He prioritized governance and traditional principles over high-stakes confrontation or movement loyalty.

That approach clashed with the new Republican reality.

RINOs, eh?

Both hard core Conservatives... Shown the door because they would not bow to Big Government Tumpy, and went against his big spending agenda.

Who's the RINO? 🤬

I knew Cassidy would never recover from his vote to convict Trump in the J6 Impeachment.  As for Massie, he may have been good on spending, he was ineffective as a Congressman because he was nothing more than a scold, which is typical for a small-l libertarian.

There are conservatives, it's libertarians who are scarce.  Definitions of "conservative" is where people of reasonable minds differ.

Yeah, that's not true. There are three kinds - Goldwater, Reagan, and Libertarian. All the subsets fall into those major categories - And they are rare in the public eye today - Only a handful - And the NEOCon moderates with the help of Tumpy, are making them rarer still.

I consider Trump more to the Reagan model than you do, and that's OK. Libertarians like Ron and Rand Paul have relegated themselves to near uselessness because they can't pass laws, only scold those who do.

Massie is in that category because he doesn't even have libertarian cred.

I DON'T WANT "conservatives" in Congress any more.
We've seen what too many of them do...
... which is...
Nothing.

I DO want reality-minded hard-core "partisans of the right".
As dedicated to the far-right as are the dem-communists dedicated to their marxist goals.

Otherwise, we get nowhere towards a restoration of America...

Surveys had Gallrein at 2:1 advantage among those aged 65+, and losing every other age bracket.  In other words Massie has a political future, neoconservatism does not.

The ONLY 'hard core partisans of the Right' ARE Conservatives. Period.

If you think you are going to get that out of a populist like Tumpy, or the NeoCons he beds with, you've another think coming.

And the bellwether, As always must be Fiscal Conservatism. If you've got a big, expensive government, you will not have liberty for very long.

And there is no doubt that we've a big, expensive, Republican government. Y'all are going the wrong way.

:yowsa: As long as they uphold the Constitution in the process.

Right now we need people who will stop the Democrat fraud spree and keep special interests (the illegals, alphabet soup, socialists, Antifas, and others) from dipping into public pockets and likely kicking back a bunch through cut-outs, PACs and LLCs to the Dem Party coffers.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
