Maybe that's the goal?  Perhaps the DNC ran the numbers and figured out that he was likely to win even without DNC support, and therefore they could comfortably throw him under the bus, not to get rid of him, but to avoid getting tarred with his fascism in their own races.

Democrats tripped over themselves to endorse this predatory pretender, even though they knew that he had attacked everything but Pearl Harbor.
