JUST IN: Poland Boosts Capacity to Support Abrams Tank Repair, Overhaul
5/6/2026

WARSAW, Poland — Poland will be the only nation in Europe capable of performing maintenance and overhaul of U.S.-made Abrams tank engines after the government announced it was funding a new facility.

“Now, Abrams tanks don’t have to be sent across the ocean, and then sent back again every time the engine needs repair,” said Konrad Gołota, undersecretary of state in Poland’s Ministry of State Assets.

The previously announced deal was formally inked during the opening session of the Defence24 Days conference in Warsaw on May 6. The facility will be in the town of Deblin and is scheduled to be up and running by 2028, Gołota said in a speech prior to signing the agreement with other government officials.

The facility — which will be operated by Polish contractor WZL-1 — will be able to do repair and overhaul of the tank’s Honeywell-made AGT1500 gas turbine engines, which are also used in recovery vehicles and mobile bridges. Repairs in country are currently carried out by Honeywell technicians, officials said at the conference.
