Every person who ever wore a uniform in service of this country once wrote a check to their uncle Sam for everything including their lives. This weekend is about those who had that check cashed for the full amount.

Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Thank you for posting.

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:13
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

If they’d stick to the real Memorial Day, May 30, we wouldn’t have so much obsession on barbecues and beaches and sales.

In fact, the very reason we have a 3-day weekend:  so it’s convenient for the businesses and the workers.
Common sense is an uncommon virtue.

I agree.  Somehow the meaning of Memorial day has been lost and for many it is equated to extra days off of work and sales opportunities.

I was brought up that Memorial Day was a solemn day. My mother would load all five of us in the station wagon and visit our father's grave at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in MO...Scott USAF Base would do a fly-over dropping flowers all over the cemetery...my brothers and sisters would gather up as many as we could and place them on his grave.

You brought tears to me eyes @mystery-ak   I'm sure this is a difficult time for you.  Thank for posting a picture of your father; he was indeed a good looking man.   Doing a fly-over the cemetery and dropping flowers is a beautiful story and  I'm sure that meant the world to you.

Hugs.
