Kerry Sheron, 69, was in critical condition following the violent assault outside his Escondido property on Wednesday afternoon.

His wife, Maria, revealed to The California Post through tears that her husband isn’t expected to survive.

The alleged assailant, 32-year-old Escondido resident Thomas Caleb Butler, was arrested on attempted murder charges and faces life in prison if convicted.

The horrified wife of a Navy veteran accused of viciously beating the elderly owner of the San Diego-area “Trump House” described her husband’s dark past — and revealed that she now plans to divorce the “nerdy gamer.”

Breanna Butler, 32, told The California Post that her husband Thomas Caleb Butler, also 32, acted violently toward his family and dangerously mixed alcohol with his medication “frequently.”

Breanna had been separated from Thomas for two years due to his violent nature, which she attributed to his mental illness.

“[He] has a history of mental health illness, and it became violent for our family, so it was best we were in separate households,” said Breanna, who has a child with her soon-to-be ex and last spoke to hime three weeks ago.

“Every time we speak it’s very hostile.”

It looks like this may have been some sort of personal beef, probably fueled by drugs and unrelated pent-up anger, rather than political.

On the side, Escondido is 20 or 25 miles from the northern outskirts of San Diego. Saying that it's "San Diego area" is a bit of a stretch.

A man accused of attacking an Escondido Army veteran and leaving him in critical condition pleaded not guilty Friday to attempted murder and other charges.

Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, appeared in State Superior Court in Vista following his arrest in connection with the May 20 attack on 69-year-old Kerry Sheron. Butler was charged with attempted murder, elder abuse, making criminal threats, and battery. A judge ordered Butler held without bail for the time being.

Deputy District Attorney Ross Garcia said Sheron suffered severe injuries during what prosecutors described as an unprovoked attack.

“It was a single punch to the jaw,” Garcia said. “The victim then falls to the floor, and there are subsequent hits to the victim's head area.”  .  .  .
