Get ready for leftist ‘anti-NICE’ protests
For leftists, branding and slogans are everything...and Trump is ready to beat them at their own game with a branding that will eat them alive.

Americans have always loved pithy political slogans. However, Trump seems to be taking it to a whole new level now that he’s apparently proposing quite seriously to rename Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”) to National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“NICE”).
One of the very first and most important political slogans in America was “No taxation without representation,” the distillation of a concept about representative government that still resonates today. Republicans started their party saying, “Free soil, free labor, free men.” The Reconstruction government promised former slaves “forty acres and a mule.” Hoover promised “a chicken in every pot,” while Roosevelt came back with “the New Deal.”
In the Cold War era, “better dead than red” inspired anti-communists, while a decade later Vietnam-era hippies chanted “make love, not war,” “hey, hey, ho, ho, [whatever Dems hate] has got to go,” and “hey, hey, LBJ, how many kids do you kill today?”
In the 21st century, Democrats flaunted yard signs and posters saying, “somewhere in Texas, a village is missing an idiot,” “no blood for oil,” “hope,” “yes, we can,” and “love trumps hate.” All are pithy. All drum their way into your brain.
