Republicans Better Have Georgia on Their Mind

With all the other freaky Senate races happening, the Georgia race isn’t getting the attention it deserves. This is an opportunity to win a seat—not just hold one, but actually take one away from a smarmy little weasel of an incumbent who shouldn’t be in office anyway. Democrats are running him as part of their Fake Moderate Strategy. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) is just a less masculine version of Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, and Republicans should be able to take back this seat in what is still a red-leaning state. But of course, being Republicans, they’ve screwed everything up early on. We still have a fighting chance, and at least one good candidate, but the GOP needs to get its act together. Yeah, I know you’re tired of hearing that.

This could’ve been an easy lay-up for outgoing GOP Governor Brian Kemp. He’s popular in the state, having defeated that fat communist lady whose name escapes me at the moment—you know, the chudette who insisted she won the governor’s race even though the state totally repudiated her and then she went on to guest star in a Star Trek episode set in an alternate timeline where there is no Ozempic? But Kemp has a problem, and that problem is his judgment. It sucks. First, he decided to get into a giant fight with Donald Trump over the 2020 election. Trump saw massive fraud and Kemp saw nothing, channeling Sergeant Schultz, just as many of these red-state Republicans do when faced with Democrat shenanigans. They hope that if they shut their eyes really tight and put their hands over their ears, all the difficult and challenging stuff in front of them will somehow go away.

It’s not going away.

Kemp did not feel like begging Trump for an endorsement, so he opted against a senate run in spite of a 61% approval rating.  Blame Trump for that. 

Suburban Atlanta has trended left during the MAGA era.  Ossoff will be reelected by the suburbs.  The party had better focus on holding the governorship or there is a pretty good chance it will be Keisha Lance Bottoms.

Fulton County alone delivered 315,000 uncertified ballots for Ossoff in 2020.  Do you think that many illegal ballots could have made a difference?

If you want to disqualify most of the ballots in the largest county, take it up with a judge.  No I don't think Ossoff loses even if every t is crossed.  The presidential results were similar to 2024 when more ballots were actually cast. 

Normie Republicans like Brian Kemp built wide majorities Georgia, and the MAGA sore loser crusade is throwing it away.  They might hold the general assembly for several years because of geographic clustering, but the statewide races are ominous looking.

Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) is leading in early polling among the top GOP contenders in Georgia who hope to unseat Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in 2026.

Collins, the second-term congressman from Georgia’s 10th district, holds a 10-point lead over Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) and an 18-point lead over attorney and former college football coach Derek Dooley, Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s pick to take on Ossoff.

He is leaving and will have minimal coattails.  The GA democrats are jazzed about 2026. 

Kemp is easily the most conservative governor of a purple state, and well to the right of many red state governors when his record is examined.  That is a liability in the MAGA era.  Alan Dershowitz is welcome in the GOP, and Reaganites are not.
