Weak squeamish man, weak response.

Market reacting accordingly. Down.

This will likely mean a continued rise in gas prices???

Gas/oil prices will fall like a rock when it's perceived the hostilities are over and the straight is open.

Trump is NOT a war time POTUS!  He does not possess the brass to KILL THE ENEMY.  And he is still surrounded by generals that rose under Obama.  Obama purged I suspect all the conservative senior officers when he took office, 4,500 of them, and Trump has done next to nothing to change that deplorable leadership.

Whoever is advising Trump is torpedoing his intentions.

The sands of the hourglass continue to slip through.  Trump has November elections approaching and he is quibbling with Iran like he has all the time in the world.  He doesn't.  He refuses to kill the enemy, he refuses to destroy vital targets that enable life to continue business as usual in Iran.

And enough already with the 'we are not looking for regime change' nonsense.  No regime change, no change.  In three years, Iran is right back to where they were.  Only this time, they take the precautions necessary to preclude the USA or other nations interferring with their obective of Israel's destruction.

Fact is, if gasoline/diesel prices are not back down by October 1 of this year to what they were prior to his launching this war, the Republicans lose control of Congress.  When that happens, the next two years will be solely focused on impeaching Trump.  All the lessons learned in WWII have been completely forgotten.

Again, no one cares at this point what happened when Biden was POTUS.  They care about NOW, and TOMORROW, and the economy is NOT presenting a better life for most Americans.  The electorate, disappointed, will show their consternation with living conditions today by turning away from Congressional Republicans.

Trump negotiating with evil men that have solidly proven they are NOT to be trusted is a true modern day tragedy.

As ugly a sentiment as it is, one must KILL THE ENEMY when going to war.  Trump does not have the stones for that.  He thinks he can sell the Iranians his way of thinking.  Utter idiocy!

IF the Strait opens .... I anticipate that Iran will only open the Strait with fees attached.

Well, his advisors are Cain, Rubio, Hegseth, Witcoff and Kushner.  Who do you think are torpedoing his intentions?  IIRC Vance was hesitant with attacking Iran.

They claim that 300 ships have already signed up ... attached fees will drive the price up still more. And will China attach transit fees to their claimed waters?

You misunderstand.  The Iranians will sell them "maritime insuance".  It won't be a racket, it will be  a legit business.  It would be a shame if any Saudi tankers bumped into a mine while transiting the Strait of Jihad.

If any tankers should spring a spontaneous leak, the Iranians will offer the a tow ... but that requires an additional insurance rider.

Wiles and Ivanka ... never look in the obvious places

AI:

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles did not publicly oppose the initial conflict, though reports indicate she had reservations about being dragged into a Middle East war and became increasingly alarmed by its political and economic fallout. While President Donald Trump and his generals moved forward with the military operation, Wiles subsequently directed Trump’s inner circle to be more honest with the president. She warned staff that they were shielding him with a "rose-colored view" and urged them to level with him about the negative domestic impacts, including soaring gas prices and overwhelming public opposition, ahead of midterm elections.

At this point, it makes no difference.  The House voted to stop the war sending Iran a very clear message.   **nononono*

The thought occurred to me today that Trump started going off the rails with Iran and also Congress just after Susie Wiles went on medical leave to deal with her cancer.  Seems that she's the only one, aside from Melania, who can handle Trump and keep his worst impulses under control, for good or ill.

Israel and Lebanon agree to ceasefire in US-brokered diplomatic breakthrough

The Department of State on Wednesday announced that the United States has brokered a major ceasefire breakthrough between Israel and Lebanon.

The agreement was reached during a trilateral meeting held June 2-3 after negotiations began on May 29, officials said.

“As a result of the U.S. led negotiations, Israel and Lebanon agreed to the implementation of a ceasefire,” the department said in a joint statement.

“Israel and Lebanon reaffirmed that they have no hostile intent toward one another and committed to continuing direct negotiations to build confidence, resolve all outstanding issues, and work toward a comprehensive agreement between the two countries.”

Officials said the deal is currently conditional, requiring the Iran-backed, Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah to cease all attacks, withdraw its fighters from southern Lebanon's South Litani Sector, and prevent the re-emergence of non-state armed groups.

As part of the agreement, pilot zones will be established and placed under the exclusive control of the Lebanese Armed Forces to prevent militant groups from operating in the area.

“Hizbollah is not just an enemy of Israel and an enemy of America, but that it is an enemy of Lebanon,” officials said.

Both sides are scheduled to meet again during the week of June 22 to continue negotiations toward a comprehensive peace treaty.

Any permanent agreement to end hostilities must be reached directly between the two governments and brokered by the U.S., the department added.

Iran needs Hezbollah to keep a second front open to keep Israel pre-occupied, and draw Israeli intelligence and military resources away from regime change in Iran.

Exactly
Why wait. Trump seen to have a very strange definition of 'ceasefire'.
Trump seems to think a ceasefire with America means America stands down and Iran can do whatever they want.
Congruently, Trump thinks a ceasefire with Israel means that Israel must stop defending itself against murderous rapist Islamic barbarians.
Sometimes, the enemy of my enemy, is also my enemy.

If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Congruently, Trump thinks a ceasefire with Israel means that Israel must stop defending itself against murderous rapist Islamic barbarians.

Trump's reaction to Israel appears to be a reflection of Netanyahu's veracity, or lack thereof.  The Gulf states are asking Trump to vouch for Netanyahu's agreements --- and he has.

But, Netanyahu too often turns around and shits all over DJT --- whether a sneak attack on Doha during peace talks approved by Netanyahu, Israel shredding the cease fire and governance proposals by the Trump administration for Gaza and the West Bank, aggressively pushing into Lebanon rather than keeping the word given to Trump, ----  and it turns out on Feb 11, 2026, Netanyahu and Mossad lied to Trump's face by assuring him:   °Iran’s ballistic missile program could be “destroyed” in weeks,  °The regime would be “too weak” to close the Strait of Hormuz, °Street protests — with Mossad help — would “trigger a western-leaning uprising.”, and °Kurdish fighters from Iraq could “open a ground front” in the northwest.

Israel's word appears to have become unreliable.

Where are you getting this information @Right_in_Virginia ?

I have posted links on this thread ad nauseam @libertybele The information can be found here:  (The report in its entirety is well worth the read) -----

Quote
How Trump Took the U.S. to War With Iran
In a series of Situation Room meetings, President Trump weighed his instincts against the deep concerns of his vice president and a pessimistic intelligence assessment. Here’s the inside story of how he made the fateful decision.
NY Times, April 7. 2026

<snip>

Mr. Netanyahu and his team outlined conditions they portrayed as pointing to near-certain victory: Iran’s ballistic missile program could be destroyed in a few weeks. The regime would be so weakened that it could not choke off the Strait of Hormuz, and the likelihood that Iran would land blows against U.S. interests in neighboring countries was assessed as minimal.

Besides, Mossad’s intelligence indicated that street protests inside Iran would begin again and — with the impetus of the Israeli spy agency helping to foment riots and rebellion — an intense bombing campaign could foster the conditions for the Iranian opposition to overthrow the regime. The Israelis also raised the prospect of Iranian Kurdish fighters crossing the border from Iraq to open a ground front in the northwest, further stretching the regime’s forces and accelerating its collapse.

Mr. Netanyahu delivered his presentation in a confident monotone. It seemed to land well with the most important person in the room, the American president.

I have said what I have to say on this topic--fir now. It isn't over.

In the words of Winston Churchill, "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

We have struck back at a theocratic totalitarian terrorism-promoting dynasty which has been at war with us for nearly half a century. As in all military conflict, and even in training, we have lost warriors who fight for this country. The numbers, for those who keep such books, seem large to some by today's standards, but pale in comparison to the number of people we have lost waiting to respond to this and past iterations of the enemy regime. They may pale in comparison to the numbers of people who will be lost to future engagements with this same enemy.

Never, in the course of human history, have we seen such concerted effort by those within our own borders to rail against those fight enemies who have professed so consistently their desire to destroy us, to conquer us, to subjugate our people and enslave or kill us, often by people whose philosophies align with those who would be our conquerors.

Daily, I have seen as those who claim their staunch advocacy, even patriotic fervor for this nation use those sources to generate a miasma of defeatism, that cloud colored by their opinions of one person, dripping with a defeatism that bodes ill for any nation, streaked with an almost jubilant focus on the actions of one man, ignoring the fact that they cannot hurt him without hurting us all.
We do not yet know how this conflict will resolve. We do not know the mind of the person being so judged, despite proclamations being made with telepathic surety. We do not know the future. Decisions are made in secret, and we will know their results as actions based on those decisions unfold, be that for better or for worse. Those decisions are complicated, not just by ordinary political opposition from within this country, but from defectors from the ranks of supporters, siding with those who have proclaimed their irrational hatred for the person who leads, and all too eager to trumpet the dirges of doom one might ordinarily have found them trying to drown out with a more sprightly air.
Defeatism can be contagious, and the complication of hardship on the American people, (a pittance, really, compared to to the hardships willingly endured the last time we won a hot war against totalitarian regimes that would have had us change our religion, our language, and our government's very foundations), weighs heavily on those who make decisions, especially in the midst of a cacophony of defeatist rhetoric designed to demoralize our leaders, our troops, and our people.
While there are those who would join in that dissonant chorus, I will not contribute to the howling of the naysayers. I may be misguided in my faith, but I will not join with those who would have had us speaking Japanese or German by 1950 had they been such a loud voice then, or Russian in subsequent decades. Instead, I try to understand the reasoning behind the actions and future paths that may be taken by someone who is balancing the information from his advisers, the global economy (despite improvements made to it overall), and the attitudes of a nation that swings in some bipolar herd from jubilation to desolation based on the minute to minute twitch of a stock ticker or the price of gasoline.
Through it all, I see an indictment of the generations sated by instantaneous gratification, who cannot see past the moment, and who would have lacked the stomach to endure the months after Pearl Harbor without shaving their heads and donning sackcloth and ashes and wailing in the streets. America required more of her people then, and might in the near future, and I only pray the generations alive can muster the internal and intestinal fortitude to endure setbacks without surrender.
How God must weep at humans' folly! Stand fast! God knows what he is doing!
Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Trump Tells Aides He Won’t Resume All-Out War With Iran Unless U.S. Troops Are Killed

https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/trump-iran-ceasefire-strait-of-hormuz-14d0d265

Quote
resident Trump has told aides privately that he would consider ending the ceasefire with Iran if Tehran kills American troops, U.S. officials said, insisting that the weekslong pause in airstrikes remains intact despite a steady stream of violent skirmishes.

The president’s reluctance to reignite the war suggests he might be willing to withstand smaller flare-ups for weeks—or even months—to avoid a broader conflict in the Middle East.

How Pakistan became Trump’s most surprising ally

https://www.vox.com/politics/490893/pakistan-trump-iran-war

Quote
approval to a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and, perhaps, finally bring the 2026 US-Iran conflict to a close, it’s already clear that one of the more surprising developments of the conflict has been the prominent role of Pakistan as a mediator.

It was Pakistan’s military leader, Field Marshal Asim Munir, who served as the key go-between in the talks that led to the initial two-week US-Iran ceasefire in early April, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who announced that it had gone into effect. Several days later, Islamabad hosted the highest level talks between the US and Iranian governments since 1979, including US Vice President JD Vance. On April 21, Trump announced the ceasefire had been extended, saying it was at Pakistan’s request. Munir has made two personal visits to Iran as part of his mediation efforts, the most recent on May 21.

(snip)

Pakistan’s turnaround with the new Trump administration began in early March 2025, when the country arrested an ISIS-K operative who was allegedly a key planner of the Kabul airport suicide bombing that killed 13 US troops during the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and extradited him to the United States, earning public gratitude from Trump.

Then came the brief May 2025 war between India and Pakistan. Pakistan’s government publicly praised Trump for his “pivotal leadership” in the diplomacy that ended the conflict and nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize. The flattery worked: Trump brought up Pakistan’s nomination during a phone call with Modi and was reportedly irritated that the Indian leader did not follow suit and, by contrast, seemed to go out of his way to downplay America’s role.

Pakistan has also seemed particularly well-attuned to the personalist style of diplomacy in the Trump era, where the line between business and politics can be extremely blurry. Pakistan’s finance minister has signed a deal with World Liberty Financial, the cryptocurrency company co-founded by Trump’s sons and the sons of his diplomatic envoy, Steve Witkoff.

Last year, Sharif also signed several memoranda on deals to deliver critical minerals and rare earth elements from Pakistan to the US. Pakistani officials have taken to referring to counterterrorism, critical minerals, and crypto as the “3 Cs” underlying their relationship with the Trump administration.

The current relationship has also doubtless been helped by the ascendance of Munir, a man who Trump might describe as a military strongman out of “central casting.” Pakistan would certainly not be playing the same role today if Imran Khan, the former cricket star turned anti-American populist prime minister — who took power halfway through Trump’s first term — were still in office. Khan was removed in a vote of no confidence in 2022, which Khan blamed on the military establishment, and has been detained on corruption charges since 2023. With his removal, the military moved quickly to consolidate power.

No, but having had several cancer patients in my immediate family over the years, the treatment, even for early stage, is brutal.  So I doubt that she has much energy to stay on the phone 24/7 with Trump, keeping him in check, in between her bouts of nausea and chemo sessions.  I imagine that she checks in a couple of times a day though.  Nevertheless, something is definitely off with Trump since April, because he's screwing up everything more than usual, like saying stupid things like "I don't care about the mid-terms" or "American's financial situations," and such.  He's going to get plastered in November if he doesn't get gas prices and the cost of living down fast, and his mass immigration enforcement program back on track.

Fantastic.  Simply fantastic.

Thanks for the sense of reality and patriotism exhibited.

Nixon/Kissinger were faced with a similar situation in 1972.  North Vietnam was arguing about the shape of the table in the Paris peace talks for weeks.  Then arose the idea that we would bomb them into the peace talks~Linebacker II.  More than 20,000 tons of ordnance was dropped, primarily targeting Hanoi and Haiphong. They returned to Paris and negotiated an end to the war.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

And Iran still has thousands of missiles pointed at ME countries: see reports of almost daily strikes. They are even building new hardened missile complexes.

So what exactly did 47's War™ accomplish, besides making the Strait [ formerly free passage ] become an Iranian toll booth?

Feel better?   I ask this because you haven't asked one question needing to be asked regarding war and peace based on a full, uncomfortable assessment of current events,  you've proved no point of discretion, nor have you engaged in a debate of the choices before us.

You have presented a drama of self-righteousness, and done so in a compelling way.  I hope this effort has provided you with the comfort you seek ----  because it has done nothing to advance the questions of war or peace, support or opposition.

Rd

Trump did not want this war.  Bombing the nuke sites and makng peace in Gaza were enough for him.  The problem is:  Trump chose Netanyahu and Mossad over his own military, intelligence agencies and advisors.   The even bigger problem is:  According to reports, Netanyahu and Mossad lied.

As posted up thread ....

Quote
How Trump Took the U.S. to War With Iran
In a series of Situation Room meetings, President Trump weighed his instincts against the deep concerns of his vice president and a pessimistic intelligence assessment. Here’s the inside story of how he made the fateful decision.
NY Times, April 7. 2026

<snip>

If there were multiple credible news agencies reporting similar data accusing Bibi of lying to Trump, it may be considered reliable information.  Funny how Trump's current advisors norTrump himself have accused Bibi of lying.

Trump is CIC and made the decision to bomb Iran.  He also made the decision to suddenly halt the attacks.
