Tehran says it will not accept the new terms as final and warns it is prepared for war if negotiations collapse over uranium enrichment, frozen assets, and control of the Strait of Hormuz

Some Israeli analysts and military experts downplayed the capture of Beaufort castle and its strategic ridge in southern Lebanon, describing it as a largely symbolic victory – one that delivered a public relations boost more than a meaningful strategic gain.

Professor Yagil Levy, the Head of The Open University Institute for the Study of Civil-Military Relations, said: “It is doubtful that capturing the Beaufort outpost is militarily necessary. Israel controls southern Lebanon, Hezbollah has retreated northward, and the main threat now comes from drones.

But in truth, debate already existed in 1982 over how necessary capturing Beaufort really was. The conclusion then, too, was that taking Beaufort was a kind of victory image.'’

“The capture of Beaufort seeks to recreate the achievement of 1982 and to project a victory image in the absence of other such images,” Levy added. “It attempts to present an accomplishment within a public discourse that increasingly assumes Israel is not winning: protests are growing in the northern communities, criticism is emerging from within the military over soldiers’ vulnerability to drone attacks, Hezbollah remains intact, and there is no realistic plan for its disarmament.”

Yet in 1982 Beaufort became a symbol of controversy, as it helped galvanise the protest of bereaved families. US secretary of state Marco Rubio is expected to announce a new ceasefire deal between Lebanon and Israel following political track negotiations in Washington Tuesday, the Lebanon Broadcasting Corporation International reported, citing sources.

Talks are due to take place on 2 and 3 June in Washington. A ceasefire has been in place since 17 April, however both sides have repeatedly broken it, accusing each other of aggression actions provoking response.

Kazakhstan has indicated it is open to taking Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium if Washington and Tehran reach a nuclear agreement, according to U.N. nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi.

Grossi told the Financial Times that Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev showed willingness to take the material during talks in Astana.

He also told the outlet that because the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has a “bank” for low-enriched uranium in Kazakhstan, the country has a "place where this could be stored safely."

Iran’s enriched uranium is a key issue in talks between the U.S. and Iran, with President Donald Trump calling for the stockpile to be removed.

The enriched uranium is thought to be buried underneath Iran’s main nuclear sites that were struck in 2025

Yet Netanyahu is saying to keep attacking, while Trump is doing the opposite.  This again shows the pitfalls of blurting out the first thing that pops in your head, no matter how detached from reality it is.

Well, maybe. 

But, Netanyahu and Mossad presented a scenario that included a desperately weakened Iran who wouldn't survive mere days of an Israeli-US onslaught and an Iranian population just waiting to rise up and remove the remains of the mullah regime. And, according to Israel, Iran would have no say over the Strait of Hormuz.  This war would be quick and triumphant, according to Israel.

US intelligence strongly disagreed with the Israeli projections.. 

I think it's possible Netanyahu's lost much of his credibility with Trump ---- and that may not entirely be a bad thing since the Iran war Netanyahu's now pushing is longer than presented and will need more than air power.  And the operation of the Strait of Hormuz would remain front and center.

Understand and agree with you.

However, IMO the posturing by POTUS...going the last mile?  It's because our global adversaries, China and Russia depend upon Middle Eastern oil, as well as India and Japan.

It appears to me that's the only reason he's not attacked the rail and refinery infrastructure is to NOT inconvenience the entire Eastern hemisphere.

Iran's war capabilities were destroyed in less than a month, so...what's the big hurry??

U.S. Strikes Iran Military Sites as Kuwait Hit by Drone and Missile Fire

The United States bombed radar and drone sites across Iran over the weekend after Tehran brought down an American MQ-1 drone. Iran further claimed a strike of its own as Kuwait reported drawing incoming fire.

The U.S. military’s Central Command said it carried out the strikes in Iran on Saturday and Sunday around the city of Geruk and on Qeshm Island, AP reports.

“The measured and deliberate strikes occurred … in response to aggressive Iranian actions that included the shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters,” Central Command said.

“U.S. fighter aircraft swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters.”

The AP report notes Kuwait said its air defenses opened fire early Monday morning to intercept incoming drone and missile fire.

Iran to halt message exchanges with US over Israel's strikes on Lebanon, Iranian media says

Iran is halting its indirect talks with U.S. negotiators in protest against Israel's attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iranian state-linked media reported Monday.

Iran's Tasnim news agency, linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported that Tehran is cutting off talks due to the "continued crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon."

The report comes after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted to social media saying Lebanon must be included in the ongoing ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran.

"The United States and Israel bear responsibility for the consequences of any breach of the truce," Araghchi wrote.

Mojtaba Khamenei touts new anti-US alliance as Gulf backchannels seep into Tehran: analyst

Iran's supreme leader has launched a sweeping counteroffensive against President Donald Trump, attempting to rally Middle Eastern nations into an anti-American alliance, an analyst warned Sunday.

The aggressive maneuvering came hours after Trump pitched an expansion of the Abraham Accords, as an analyst said Tehran is seeking to position itself as the region’s "new sheriff" while forcing Gulf states with backchannels to Iran to choose between Washington’s security umbrella and a "New Islamic Civilization."

On Sunday, negotiations between Iran and the United States appeared to be ongoing, with Trump not yet signing off on a potential peace agreement.

Trump recently held a phone call with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain to discuss expanding the 2020 Abraham Accords, followed by a May 25 post on Truth Social.

Mojtaba Khamenei issued a direct counter-response on X on May 26, issuing a call for a "New Islamic Civilization" aimed at those same regional capitals.

"I, with sincerity and purity of intention, invite all Islamic countries and governments to friendship and cooperation in goodness, so that by working together we may take steps toward the advancement of the Islamic Ummah and the resolution of the Islamic world's problems," Khamenei posted.

Highlighting "the nations of the region" and "common interests that will shape the new order and the future architecture of the region and the world," he spoke of "the Islamic Ummah and the #New_Islamic_Civilization."

"The United States will no longer have a safe haven for its mischief and for establishing military bases in West Asia," he also warned.

"Mojtaba Khamenei's statement is that the Muslim world should consolidate under Iran's leadership — the 'Ummah,' the 'new Islamic civilization' — against the American-led order," Dr. Omar Mohammed told Fox News Digital.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it carried out "self-defense strikes" against Iran over the weekend.

"U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian radar and command and control sites for drones in Goruk, Iran and Qeshm Island this weekend," a press release noted.

Hezbollah opened fire with scores of rockets and  drones on Northern Israel making it uninhabitable.

Israel is responding to the Hezbollah attacks which Hezbollah could stop and ask for a ceasefire at virtually anytime but instead continues to fire at Israel with escalating attacks and more sophisticated drones sent against civilians at night.

And Iran has been firing on ships in the Strait and at Kuwait and elsewhere. And they are walking away over Lebanon? More incredible double talk from the world’s most evil regime.
