I do not understand the bizarre trend on the right these days where some people exhibit an unhinged hatred for both Israel and Ukraine. As if these people are such unmitigated %uckers for refusing to surrender to their attackers.
Final Solution much?
As a Jewish guy whose father's family came to America in 1900 from the Ukraine, I might have a bit of experience in that area. (My mom's family came from Hungary and Germany in the 1880's, but that's another story).
Jew hatred most often has its roots in paranoia and xenophobia, and has existed as such for thousands of years across hundreds of nations, not because Jews don't assimilate well (unlike members of another, larger group I might mention), but precisely because they
do tend to assimilate, and succeed exceptionally well at it, even while maintaining their essential culture. Envy often plays a role.
The Ukrainian thing on the alt-Right is more complex. Many of us in the larger conservative camp have grown weary of foreign intrigue and military interventions, especially since the end of WWII. Such involvements have generally not worked out very well for America, wasting blood and treasure on places where our national interest has been questionable.
For me, I sure as hell don't want to see a thug like Russia's Putin rewarded for invading Ukraine and bombing innocent civilians, no matter what Russia's historical claim to their border regions might be. But we also must recognize the limits of American interests in that region and also be cognizant of the fact that Ukraine's government has been corrupt and untrustworthy at times. So: support Ukraine, but closely monitor and verify what they are doing with our limited assistance.
