Canadian Lawmaker Despairs at Fate of ‘MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+’ People

Leaders of several Canadian indigenous organizations gathered in Ottawa on Wednesday to voice their concern at the sunsetting of federal funding for some organizations.

Leah Gazan (NDP MP) specifically outlined who she thought was most impacted by Canada’s 2026 Budget which sliced some $7B from Indigenous Services Canada and Crown Indigenous relations.

She despaired at what she claimed is the “abhorrent” and “callous” treatment of Canada’s indigenous people generally, before focussing in on others.:

“They provided $0 to deal with the ongoing genocide of MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+. Rates of violence are increasing, and the PM is turning a blind eye.”

The most absurd part of this story is how dead serious Liberals are about their own nonsense. This is serious!
While the rest of us laugh openly at ‘MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+’ the people who are in the religion of Liberalism think of it as a Holy canticle.

My family is wondering why "Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls" isn't a separate issue all its own.

They resent that the rest of those letters are trying to tack themselves onto what should be a standalone issue.

It's sad that Trump had to shoot off his mouth about Canada, thereby tilting their election to the Liberal Party and giving them Carney as PM.  They could have started on the road back to sanity under a Poilievre government, but instead they continue as an Ivy League faculty lounge swollen to the size of a nation-state. 

I hope Alberta -- which is culturally more like Wyoming or Texas than Ontario or Quebec -- secedes.  I'd welcome them into the Union if they applied (the rest of Canada not so much), but they could surely make a go as an independent country with their oil resources and beautiful scenery (the latter as a basis for tourism).
