This "ceasefire" is gonna last about as long as did those between Israel and hamas.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Hegseth will have to learn "the hard way", it seems.
Want "peace" with iran?
Then THESE are the goals which must be achieved:
- US controls Straits of Hormuz into the immediate future (after, say, 10 years of "new" iranian governance, perhaps we may withdraw). Such control is going to require an occupational force that will extend 75-100 miles on either side of the strait, and extend inland by 50-100 miles.
- US seizes and holds Kharg Island. WE control the oil ouput, and will not interfere with the refining and shipping of same, and oil revenues will continue to iran, IF they accept our terms of surrender. Again, iranian control will be returned in about 10 years if they conform to rest of our terms.
- IRGC removed from power, and disbanded. Those who resist must be, well, "neutralized". "Regular" iranian army re-organized under our supervision. Of course, we're going to have to go in and TAKE control from them, with troops.
- mullahs and ayatollahs removed from power. Any civilian or military governmental organization which rules iran subject to our victory must abandon the position of "supreme leader".
- A new iranian constitution, written by US, a la MacArthur in postwar Japan. Input from the Persians will be accepted.
That's what we should be aiming for.
Yes, it's going to require ground forces.
And yes, there are going to be casualties -- perhaps a substantial number.
BUT... if we want victory, there's no getting around this.
Remember what Mr. Reagan said when it was asked how he wanted the Cold War to end?
"We win. They lose".
He knew how it works.
I used to end my posts with "sorry if you don't like this reply", which some folks have lambasted me for in another topic.
So... I'll change that to this:
I don't care whether you like this reply or not. I'm posting it anyway.
