(Nicole Miller/U.S. Army) The 82nd Airborne Division’s quick reaction brigade is being eyed for a possible deployment tied to operations in Iran, The New York Times reported, as thousands of Marines also make their way to a region where questions swirl over the potential for a ground operation. No final order has been issued to dispatch the 82nd Airborne’s “Immediate Response Force” comprised of 3,000 soldiers, but “prudent planning” was underway, senior defense officials told the Times in a late Monday report. The Fort Bragg-based brigade can be deployed anywhere in the world in under 24 hours and serves as the Army’s emergency response force. This has been a consideration and the WH has not indicated a final decision.  The press needs to remain quiet on this.  Iran doesn't need to know that they're on their way.

Pentagon confirms elements from the 82nd Airborne Division to deploy to the Middle East

Elements from the 82nd Airborne Division headquarters and a brigade combat team will deploy to the Middle East, the Pentagon confirmed in a statement Wednesday.

“We can confirm elements of the 82nd Airborne Division HQs, some division enablers and the 1st BCT will be deploying to the CENTCOM AOR,” a Defense Department spokesperson said, adding that “due to operations security we have nothing additional to provide at this time.”


The Pentagon did not provide details on the size, duration or mission of the deployment.

The deployment comes as the U.S. weighs force posture options in the region amid escalating conflict with Iran.
