After a few weeks? Of course not.
True enough. I'm fully onboard with taking down the Iranians once and for all, remembering all the evil that regime has caused in the world since 1979. If there was ever a war to be fought, this is it. Probably 20-30 years late but better now than ever.
With that said, I think that DoD has overestimated the ability of the U.S. Navy to project the same kind of sea power that it once did before 9/11, in terms of endurance and scale. There's just not enough surface warfare ships available anymore to simultaneously lock down the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
That sudden realization is why Trump is trying to round up more ships from supposedly "allied" nations to re-open the Strait of Hormuz and perform escort duties with the tanker fleet. The Europeans are too weak to do but the Indians and Japanese certainly can, especially the latter, which has built a fine regional "self-defense" fleet that could be quite formidable.
And we know how well the Japanese can fight when they are unleashed and put their minds to it.
