BREAKING: I’m told by law enforcement source that the suspected shooter at the Michigan synagogue was armed with a rifle, rammed a vehicle into the building and was killed in shootout w/ armed security. I’m told vehicle caught on fire and the suspect’s body is burned. No ID yet.

BREAKING: I’m told by three law enforcement sources that the vehicle used in the attack at a Michigan synagogue today is registered to a naturalized U.S. citizen from Lebanon who lives in Dearborn, MI.

I have a name, but am waiting for confirmation that name matches the badly burned corpse that was driving the vehicle.

Can only confirm the vehicle registration right now.

On Thursday’s broadcast of MS NOW’s “The Weeknight,” co-host Symone Sanders Townsend commented on the attack on a synagogue in Michigan by saying that “I think the Jewish community across this country feels under attack. I am not divorcing that from the feeling that there are many other Americans that also feel under attack. The immigrant community in this country feels under attack by its own government.”


While speaking with Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), Sanders Townsend said, “I just want to take a step back for a second, because the events of today, they are harrowing. I know we do not yet know why the events unfolded in Michigan, but a synagogue was targeted. And I think the Jewish community across this country feels under attack. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel responds to synagogue attack

What we know
• A suspect is dead after ramming a vehicle into a Detroit-area synagogue, which became engulfed in flames, according to authorities. The incident happened at Temple Israel, which includes an early childcare center and school, in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan.

• The Department of Homeland Security identified the suspect as Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, who was born in Lebanon and became a US citizen in 2016.

• After the ramming, security opened fire at the suspect, who was later found dead in the vehicle, the Oakland County sheriff said. A security guard was hit by the vehicle but is expected to recover, while at least 30 law enforcement officers were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, he said.

• Earlier, law enforcement officials briefed on the scene said that responders found what appeared to be a large amount of explosives in the vehicle.
