Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is demanding that President Donald Trump release oil from the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) as global energy prices surge.

However, the call comes after Schumer fiercely opposed Trump’s effort to replenish the reserve when oil prices were far lower.

In an apparent U-turn, Schumer is now urging the administration to release barrels from the emergency stockpile as oil prices spike amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In a statement, Schumer argued that the reserve exists specifically to respond to global crises affecting energy markets.

“When wars and global crises disrupt energy markets, the United States has the ability to act, but President Trump and his administration are refusing to do so,” Schumer said.

Our Reserves are low because Biden tapped them too quickly and damaged the salt dome storage facilities.  Gotta fix or replace them first.

Just another instance of a liberal believing that Government is a magic wizard that can instantiate something from nothing if they steal enough people's money.  But, alas there's no such thing as "enough" other people's money.

Though, we could re-fill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve using new oil wells in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge / National Petroleum Reserve / Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 4.

This would be a good time to use the Defense Production Act to greenlight and fastrack every energy project in the United States.  Why let a good crisis go to waste?

All the greenlighting in the world doesn't change the fact that without the projected ROI, the well will never spud. It just isn't there, even with the current spikes in prices, because those are anticipated to be short term.
